Does it pay to go to Laughlin for a day? Is it nice to walk arround or is it just for gambling? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Also, If we go we%26#39;ll have to rent a car. Where is the best/least expensive place on the strip? and last - are there any nice or interesting places to stop along the way? We have seen all the Vegas stuff and would like to do something different this time.
Thank you all for your help.
Laughlin
We drove to Laughlin, but we already had a rental car for a week. It was OK, nothing I would recommend to my friends. We also took a bus trip there years ago, free trip with a meal and gambling. Again, nothing special.
If I were to rent a car for the day I would go many other places. Not sure what you have seen outside of Vegas. Hoover Dam %26amp; Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon, Charleston Mountain, Green Valley Ranch or a further trip, Zion. I would chose those over Laughlin.
This is obviously just my opinion. Others may be able to tell you good reasons why you should take a trip there.
Laughlin
It%26#39;s a nice diversion for a day if you%26#39;re a Vegas veteran but I really wouldn%26#39;t waste a day of Vegas time to go there if there%26#39;s places in LV you still haven%26#39;t checked out. Also I agree with sage in that there%26#39;s other more rewarding day trips.
There%26#39;s not a great deal to do in Laughlin apart from gambling. The river walk can be a nice diversion for a while. Be aware that in summer it can get seriously hot - you%26#39;ll be relieved to get back to the cool of Vegas.... :-)
I went to Laughlin for the first time recently and wasn%26#39;t too impressed. It was all about gambling, and the casinos were just average. It%26#39;s not much of a walk-around place as in having a town-type area to walk and shop etc. What I found most interesting was the river, and enjoyed taking the water taxi and walking the river walk, but that%26#39;s about it. I can%26#39;t even remember what I ate... it was that memorable. Okay, I%26#39;m not trying to rip on Laughlin.... because it was nice to do something different out of LV. I just ~had~ a need see it, so if you feel that way then by all means go get it out of your system. :)
I definitely wouldn%26#39;t rent a car just to go to Laughlin. Have you really seen all the Vegas stuff? Have you been downtown, off strip casinos or attractions, Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon, Lake Mead Cruise,Pinball Museum, Atomic Testing Museum, Titanic Exhbit, etc? To me they are more interesting than Laughlin.
We went to Laughlin for a day last September and really enjoyed it. No, it%26#39;s not as exciting as Vegas, but it was fun. We also enjoyed the riverwalk and went on a London Bridge JetBoat tour to Lake Havasu. That took about 4 hours and was fun - if you like boat rides.
The hotels are extremely inexpensive and Harrah%26#39;s was nice, but nothing outstanding... I think Golden Nugget is nicer... If you haven%26#39;t done it once, you might enjoy Laughlin. We did!!!
You can enjoy Hoover Dam on the way to Laughlin...
I%26#39;m not sure about rental cars on the strip. You may want to rent a car through Priceline... If you NAME YOUR OWN PRICE, you can usually rent a nice car for less than $20 per day. I%26#39;ve rented a compact car for $15 per day from Priceline and loved it. The prices go lower if you wait to book within a week or less of your trip... If you just want the car for a day or two, you can choose Las Vegas ';city'; location rather than ';airport'; location in Priceline and get a taxi from your hotel to the rental car.
Have fun!!!!
I have been to Laughlin many times and it%26#39;s been fun.
We always drive over to Oatman (old gold mining town in az. not to far away) and have a great time feeding carrots to the wild burrio%26#39;s in town (who come and go as they please) checking out the gold mine that is 200 feet below route 66 also the local shops in town.
Than a scenic drive over historic route 66 to Kingsman az. than route 93 back to Vegas.
Enjoy,
Bobear
Well, it didn%26#39;t take much. After reading your comments - we decided not to go to Laughlin. The only places we haven%26#39;t been to were Valley of Fire (which we assumed was the same as Red Rock Canyon), and Lake Mead. Not sure if we want to.
We would love to see LV history sites, but there aren%26#39;t any left. Would love to see an old mining town or ghost town, but we don%26#39;t know of any that are within a 1 hour drive. Does anyone know of any ';links'; for us to check out?
Thank you all so much for ';saving'; us from wasting a precious vac. day.
7star: You probably made the right choice. Vegas is much nicer and more exciting than Laughlin. However, Laughlin is fun if you%26#39;ve never been there and want to try something different. We DID love the boat tour, but if you%26#39;re not into 4 hour boat rides, you probably wouldn%26#39;t enjoy it.
Have fun in Vegas!!!
I n my opinion Valley of Fire is nothing like Red Rock. Two very unique places, and I prefer VOF. Lake Mead can be done on the same trip.
My husband and I went to Laughlin a couple of years ago. We had a rental car. The only thing we enjoyed was driving back about midnight and pulling over on the side of the road and enjoying the stars and the skyline of Vegas all lit up. Also you can drive out to the Red Rock casino and enjoy the Red Rock Mountains. Just a thought.....
