This was our first trip. I took our two kids. We were there three days. What I didn%26#39;t spend on gambling, I pumped into show tickets. Great stay with really only one glitch.
We saw Cirque du Soleil%26#39;s KA show and Mystere. My teenager and I preferred KA and my younger one preferred Mystere. KA was darker, more intense and while the plot was silly, the set was phenomenal. How did they engineer that? And THAT?! KA has speakers in the individual seats and Mystere doesn%26#39;t. KA has warrior ushers that sometimes act in character. Delightful! Mystere is more circus, KA is more ethereal, though dark? Other worldly? More escapist, I guess.
We stayed in the Signature MGM. We loved the room, the front desk staff, the view, but the sleeper couch wasn%26#39;t made our first night -- did they not know we were coming?! Who wants to be making up a couch after a day of flying, dinner, and a show? And the second day, apparently housekeeping raided my daily reminder pill box. If you leave your room with six pills and return to find only four, it%26#39;s not that hard to see what has happened. Yes, like my camera and money, I should have carried them with me. Note to self ...
Many of the MGM/Signature pools were closed while we were there, but it was chilly and breezy. We don%26#39;t really blame them. The MGM pools blared loud music and we don%26#39;t care for the cigarette smoke, so the one Signature pool that was open was especially refreshing. The chlorine was pretty intense. My son got hives.
We didn%26#39;t mind the distance to the strip, but then we were just there for shows and food. We hoofed it during the daytime, cabbed at night.
We saw Phantom last night. There aren%26#39;t any words to describe it. Wow.
Taking TA suggestions and following guidebooks, we ate at Wolfgang Puck%26#39;s, Emeril%26#39;s, Mon Ami Gabi, and Isla. All great eating, MAG being the absolute best. We discovered America in NYNY -- good breakfast menu! Loved the enormous relief map of the United States! And the teenager gave the NYNY roller coaster ride two thumbs up. The breakfast buffet at Mirage was okay. Maybe we aren%26#39;t buffet people.
The lion habitat at MGM was no biggie, but it was free.
We loved the dolphins and cats at Mirage, highly recommend seeing them.
The shopping in Vegas mortified us. It never ended! It felt like all roads led to some never ending shopping area with blue skies and white clouds floating across.
I asked my daughter would she ever go back to Vegas and she said yes. I asked her what would she do? She said, ';Exactly what we did.'; :-)
Family fun in Vegas.Good for you! Sounds like you really packed many adventures in your few days. I%26#39;m glad you all enjoyed yourself. Maybe next time you can fit in a trip to Valley of Fire or Grand Canyon.
Family fun in Vegas.Great trip Jannel-
You sure did it up right. Amazing you saw all those shows and had so many great meals. Glad you loved Mag. Did you sit outside? I%26#39;m going to ride the coasters with my daughter this trip. Glad your kids give it thumbs up. (DH doesn%26#39;t do rides)
That is horrible about pills missing, and am I reading right, also your camera and money? What did the Sig MGM say? Let me guess, not their responsibility.
Anyway, I%26#39;m impressed in all that you did. Your a great Mom treating your kids to all those marvelous shows and meals and great shopping. That is what is so unique about Vegas, you can do it all in a couple miles. There is no where else like it in the whole world.
Glad you and your kids had such a great vacation.
No, no, sorry I was vague. Blame it on travel day lag. :-)
I held my money and my camera close, but I never stopped to think that I should guard my pills as well.
Thank God! That would have been real bad. I wasn%26#39;t clear on that. Glad you had a good trip.
Great TR thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the TR--goin%26#39; with our teens next month so it%26#39;s of particular interest. :)
Jeez, ya gotta have some *cojones* to swipe someone%26#39;s pills. How%26#39;d they guess what kind they were???? Sorry to hear about that. Hope they weren%26#39;t a total medical necessity.
Really good report Jannel43.
Sounds like an action packed trip.
We are going, mum dad and two teenagers in October and staying at the Signature hopefully doing a lot of what you did.
What tower did you stay in and apart from first night was your couch made up for the other evenings?
I liked your review of KA and Mystere we are still deciding on which one to see.
Glad you enjoyed your trip. This may help others with teens who are considering places to stay and a couple of shows to see.
Glad you enjoyed the food at Wolfgang%26#39;s and Emerils. I like both those places when staying at the MGM.
Looks like another future Vegas addiction with your daughter =)
We were assigned Signature tower #3, on the 30th floor. The hotel puts PH (which I guess means penthouse) in front of floors 29 and up. We were assigned room 809. We had a balcony, understandably with no furniture on it, and we could walk out and see NYNY, a smidge of the Paris, Bally%26#39;s, the Mirage sign and the Treasure Island sign. Mostly we saw construction, which I like. Giant cranes, a cement truck far, far below. The pool below changed colors at night.
I should mention we took the monorail one day and that was fun. We caught it at MGM and rode it to Harrah%26#39;s to get to the Mirage. You still end up doing quite a bit of walking, but it saves you some time and steps.
When we arrived, there weren%26#39;t any sheets on the couch and we had to make it. The second and third nights, housekeeping did a great job.
Because they left some pills, I only missed one night and that was okay. It was just spooky. They even tucked the pillcase behind the bathroom tv for some reason.
Thanks for your comments!
