Walk from Mandalay Bay to ';Welcome to Vegas sign';?

Is it a far walk from MB to the ';sign';?

Walk from Mandalay Bay to ';Welcome to Vegas sign';?

i would guess a 10 minute walk not bad at all

have a great trip!

Walk from Mandalay Bay to ';Welcome to Vegas sign';?

Thank you

I measure it at 0.7 miles. See

http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1704229

Me and my girlfriend did it; it wasn%26#39;t too bad.

Me and my girlfriend did it; it wasn%26#39;t too bad.

Grueling trip

Take water.

Watch the traffic

How is a 0.7 mile walk a grueling walk ? LOL

Silly question, but I don%26#39;t remember. Is the Welcome sign south of Mandalay or north?

LOL TD40!!!

I agree with you 100% but I hope Patron...is tongue and cheek with the ';grueling'; response?

I keep reading remarks about being ';central strip'; and ';gee is the walk from MGM to Bellagio too far';.

Where is people%26#39;s health when a one mile walk...20 minutes per mile on average...is a big challenge.

Yeesh.

course when its 100F out...I ain%26#39;t doing it.

just jump on the deuce bus %26amp; i drops you almost at the side of the sign same comming back

Now I'm changing my mind about hotels

I should%26#39;ve stayed off of here while I could. We%26#39;re staying at TI in a petite suite. The rate was unbeatable ... 6XX for 4 nights. I really like that it has two bathrooms! I like that end; it%26#39;s close to the mall and the Wynn. Now I see that Palazzo has suites for $199....do they do a AAA discount? I could call and see...are they across the street from the Mirage...it closer to the mall correct?

I%26#39;m thinking I want to change my mind...the only thing holding me back is the two bathrooms at TI.

Now I'm changing my mind about hotels

I stayed in a Tower Suite at TI. It was very nice and comfortable, but I would not really describe it as luxurious. In particular, I thought the bathrooms, yes there were two, fell short in some areas of convenience and comfort. I think the Palazo will deliver luxury. So you need to determine which you value more, 2 bathrooms or a higher level of comfort. Either way I don%26#39;t think you will be disappointed.

Now I'm changing my mind about hotels

Yeah, I did some more investigations and someone said to bid on it on priceline. I%26#39;m so scared of priceline... it%26#39;s so PERMANENT. The person also said that the North Strip (5*) is almost always the Palazzo or the Venetian; so you can%26#39;t go wrong. I picked 5* North Strip and am about to bid $159... I doubt they%26#39;ll take it..but if they do that%26#39;s great. I%26#39;m also going to call and see if they take AAA.

While TI would be a step down from Palazzo it is closer to the mall but just a little bit. TI has a walkway attached to the mall were Palazzo you would have to go over two walkways (not a big deal).

I am a huge TI fan, but if you will be paying just a little bit more for Palazzo go for it.

Venetian is across from TI and the Palazzo is attached, so you would still be in the same area.

No AAA...

I got the Venetian...boo! I wanted the Palazzo...do you think that the hotel will let me change it?

And is the Venetian a suite only hotel? We definitely wanted a suite!

got the Venetian...boo! I wanted the Palazzo...do you think that the hotel will let me change it?

Did you bid $159 ? I%26#39;ve thought about doing the same thing.

Try Palazzo through pricline $160 a night

That%26#39;s where Priceline can be tricky. Is your stay during the week,or on a weekend?

I couldn%26#39;t decide between a few places when booking recently for a June trip, so I decided the risk would be ok with Priceline. The one other time I booked a four star for something like $69, I had a feeling I would end up with Westin since that is a four star slightly off strip, and many people ended up with it. Anyway, I did get the Westin (kind of wanted to try it) and it worked out great. I bid $60 this time, for South Strip (had not clue where ';South'; starts on Priceline), thinking I might get Westin, and I got Planet Hollywood. I was slightly concerned due to reviews, but I am excited.

For you, I have heard lots of good things about Venetian, so you will probably really enjoy it. If you visit next door at Palazzo and enjoy that vibe, then next time you could book directly.

The Venetian rooms are all described as suites.

Just have a look at the pictures on the Venetian website and then the Palazzo%26#39;s. Their rooms are basically the same except I think the Palazzo%26#39;s are a little large and of course newer.

Ok guys, so I just called and we have the Venetzia Bella suite...with 2 Queens? I see people calling to try to get the one with two beds..and I%26#39;m trying to wonder why... We just want one bed... LOL!

  • Mamma Mia or Love??

Which is better? Two couples, guys don%26#39;t really care, we grew up with the Beatles, but which would hold the men%26#39;s attention?

    Mamma Mia or Love??

    Love

    Mamma Mia or Love??

    Love

Love, for sure! Mamma Mia is a cute show- Love is a WOW show!

MamaMia is still my favorite show in Vegas

But I have yet to see Love. Which I should in June.

I also grew up with the Beatles. But not thrilled with Cirque shows. But I%26#39;ve been advised Love will be excellent, even for a Cirque show! Looking forward to it.

Go see both. MamaMia can be had for half price often and ends it%26#39;s run in January.

I agree with Lowrance, see both if you can.

We saw Love on our last visit, and we both loved it.

Next month we will see Mamma Mia. I purchased discount tix from travelzoo.com and our seats are in the 2nd row, center. I was pleasantly surprised with that!

I%26#39;ve seen and enjoyed both, my husband enjoyed both. Love is by far the better of the two, Mamma Mia is really fun and the music is great but Love is spectacular- the Beatles Music come to life. If your budget is really tight then Mamma Mia would be considerably more affordable but if you can afford to see Love then you won%26#39;t regret spending the money.

LOVE, I%26#39;ve seen it twice and want to see it again in May.

Love. We have seen it twice already and will hopefully go again in June. I enjoyed it so much that I get goosebumps every time I think about it!

    Love.

You have chosen two wonderful shows to consider!! I have seen Love twice and it is just a really neat show. I saw Mamma Mia too and was just listening to the soundtrack this morning...peppy and fun. I can%26#39;t think of Mamma Mia without smiling.

Like every person here, if you can swing it, try to see both. Now that I know MM is leaving soon, I may have to see it a second time as well, if I can talk my friend into it this June.

If you can only afford one show time-wise or financially, or don%26#39;t think you will get back to Vegas again, I would have to suggest Love.

    NCAA Tourney Watching in Vegas

Looking for places to watch the NCAA opening rounds in Vegas. This will be my 8th year going and it is packed. We have tried going off the strip to the Orleans and others, but that is the worst kept secret because even they were packed last year. We are willing to pay for seats even. Does anybody have tips for where you can pay for a seat or get one for free. We do not want to have to get out at 6 AM to save seats either.

    NCAA Tourney Watching in Vegas

    I like Sunset Station.

    NCAA Tourney Watching in Vegas

I went to the GVR last year for MM and it was about 75% to capacity. Great place and excellent service. I would defenitely go there again...

    Have fun

Thanks. We did GVR for one day last year and will probably head back.

    Nighclub Tips Please!

I%26#39;m going to Vegas next weekend with a group totalling 9 females in our mid twenties. We are all interested in getting uber dressed up and heading out to nightclubs like Pure, Tao and Jet. I know these places can be next to impossible to get into.. so I was hoping for some tips!! Any suggestions would be great.

I know we have the advantage of being all female, young and in great shape, and we%26#39;ll be dressed to the nines. But won%26#39;t everyone else be?

And the VIP packages are crazy! like 400 per person at Pure!

    Thanks for your help!

this site offers the information you%26#39;re looking for.

    Nighclub Tips Please!

    Thanks :)

You may want to try signing up for the guest list in adavnce for some of these clubs. That usually works well for young ladies and can mean waiting in a much shorter line or no line at all.

Also, for any club, the earlier you arrive, the easier it will be to get in. After 11:30 PM it can be tough at the hotter clubs because they may alreayd be full to capacity.

I can%26#39;t convince you to swing by here and pick me up on your way, can I? :)

You%26#39;ll do fine. I don%26#39;t know why there is so much info online that makes it appear like its impossible to get in, even for young groups of women!

If you%26#39;re in your 20s and are all girls you%26#39;ll have no problem getting in free and may even be able to bypass the line (no special passes needed).

This has worked for me even at Pure on a Saturday night with an hour long line out front.

Just go send your friendliest 2 or 3 girls up to the front and politely ask the bouncer if your group of 9 can get in.

    Love those Canadian girls!

From your description, I don%26#39;t think you will have a problem getting in any of the clubs.

We (just us 2 guys) are having bottle service at LAX on Friday 21st. We will have some extra space at out table and will bypass the line. If you are planning on going to LAX friday let me know.

    Bill

Me and my friends contacted the guys at gooddudes.com. Its a free service and they were able to get us on most of the guestlists we asked for.

We went to Light @ Bellagio (now called the Bank) Drai%26#39;s afterhours at Bill%26#39;s and Tao at the Venetian.

I have also contacted some of the clubs through there myspace pages to get on the guestlists.

Its always nice to be prepared because there always seems to be younger and hotter girls dressed in less clothes in Vegas trying to get into the same club.

    Good Luck!

Thanks for all the help! We%26#39;re already on the Guestlist for Pure on Friday (KFeds Birthday party...its going to be trash-tastic!) and I%26#39;ll try to work on the guestlists elsewhere! And we%26#39;ll make sure to be there early :)

    Thanks again for the advice!

a group of attractive girls will have no problems getting into any of the forementioned clubs.. Just sign up on their guestlists.. even without the guestlist you shouldnt have too much difficulty in getting in.. and if you%26#39;re attractive as you say then you should have no problem being invited to tables of others.

You are definitely going to want to check out The Bank @ Bellagio as well as Blush @ Wynn. After hours @ Teatro (begins at 2am).

    You can thank me later.

you guys are going a bit too soon.... my party of 9 arrives the following week! anyways, since you%26#39;ll be there ahead of me please message me or post a nightclub review when you get back to let some of us know how things went for you and your friends- i%26#39;d love to hear back from a fellow torontonian on their opinion of the clubs as i imagine you might already be acquainted with some of the clubs in our city that in my opinion are top notch!(muzik, brant house, ultra, west, circa, century and the like...) nothing against anyone from other cities... it%26#39;s just that toronto nightlife is widely considered to be top 5 in north america- definitely top 10... and sometimes when i read what someone is saying about a particular club i wonder what they have back home to compare it to... either way play safe and have fun!!!

  • Cirque Shows

    Hey,

Anyone have any coupon codes for any of the cirque shows?

    Thanks!

    Cirque Shows

I believe you can currently get a discount for Myst猫re through goldstar.com but usually for the Cirque shows it%26#39;s a case of book as early as you can pay full price if you want tickets.

    Cirque Shows

Yes, goldstar.com has Mystere at a discount. travelzoo.com has Zumanity for $98 per person, (2 tix required) includes $ 50 NY/NY food %26amp; beverage credit 2 drinks @ the show and a free souvenir program.

Those are the only 2 I%26#39;m aware of.

    Best Slot Clubs

I have never joined a slot club but obviously that%26#39;s how everyone is getting comped for meals and rooms, etc. I%26#39;m going to Vegas in April (staying at NYNY) and I%26#39;m wondering if there a best casino to join the slot club for that you seem to get the most out of? Also, are points transferrable between hotels if they%26#39;re part of the same company (for example, the MGM/Mirage chain of hotels - could you accumulate points at MGM and use them at Mirage?) Thanks in advance.

    Best Slot Clubs

I%26#39;m also curious to this as I will be staying at Excalibur but anticipate on doing my gambling at other MGM/Mirage properties. Will my gambling at these properties help with comps at Excalibur?

    Best Slot Clubs

Yes, you can play at any of the MGM properties and acquire points. (There are 12 of them). You will only need one card to do this. I play at Station properties and all the points are accumulated on one card, regardless of where I play. This is also true of Coast Casinos. As far as perks go, each group has their own point value that can be redeemed. Some points are accumulated on $1/1 pt; $10/1 pt; etc. It depends on whose property it is; ditto for redemptions. Some are harder to gain points than others. My suggestion is each time you have the opportunity to sign up for a slot card, do so. They all have benefits. You can also use some of them for table games. You show your card to the floor when you begin to play blackjack or whatever, and they keep track of the points for you. Ask at the players club booth. (Of course, it all really depends on how much you gamble.) You can also sign up for a card through MGM online, just go to

    www.playersclub.com

Best Slot Club %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; All Casinos.

We give you a card %26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; you give us all your money in exchange

We like Harraha%26#39;s because we live near Atlantic City and gain more comps that way. We also like MGM because we play in NY NY a lot.

Get them all they usually have promo%26#39;s. Points add up on the cards no matter what casino you use (meaning chain).

Yes if you have an MGM card and play at MGM all the time but want to eat at Gallagher%26#39;s in NY NY and use your comps you can.

Here%26#39;s my thought on Patron%26#39;s post..... If you go to Disney and spend all your money, do they send you an offer to come back for 3 free nights at their hotel or give you any free food?

If you play anyway, might as well get the comps! I can%26#39;t really say what the BEST slot club is, they all comp differently!

So what happens if we%26#39;re staying at NYNY and have a MGM/Mirage card, but want to eat at the Mandalay Bay Buffet with comps? It%26#39;s a different hotel so they can%26#39;t charge it to the room, right? Do we ask the cashier before paying for the buffet if we have enough points for a discount?

you can charge a mandalay buffet to the mgm room you are staying in. It could get comped at the end of your trip.

Which is the best club? Well Harrahs expect you to show up and play frequently, as their points expire every 6 months so you either take frequent trips, hit other Harrahs locations in other cities or get stuck using a harrahs credit card. MGM has an 18 month expiration on points, a huge difference.

MGM/Mirage is better for on the spot comps (meaning comping room and etc for the current trip), HET aka Harrahs is better for come back comps (meaning sending comped room offers for future visit).

For me they both have their pros and cons and I am very lucky to live within an hour of a property for each of them, so the points expiring does not bother me as I can go anytime.

As far as MGM/Mirage if you are looking for a night or food comps they do have different point levels for this for each of their hotels. MGM Grand is 1000 for a buffet and 3700 or 3800 for one night. Now if you get a person in a good mood they may waive this when they look at your play, which often happens for me.

I have a question in relation to this...

when an earlier poster said points are accumulated $1/1 pt, $10/1pt, etc., does that mean that at some places, for each dollar you bet on a slot machine, you get one point, but some places, you may have to bet $10 before you get a point? I looked all over the MGM websites to try and figure out how much you have to bet to earn each ';point'; but all it says is that each point is worth a penny (which I%26#39;m assuming means that if I have 1200 points I have $12 to free play/cashback/whatever, not that each penny I bet gets me a point.. I wish, right? :) ). So do you just have to go find out at each machine how much you get pointwise for your bets?

    Bally's Classic vs. Deluxe

What is the difference between Bally%26#39;s Classic and Deluxe rooms? There appears to be quite a difference in price, especially when I sign in with my Total Rewards number.

    Bally's Classic vs. Deluxe

I cant say for sure, but I think one has a view, and the other doesnt.

    Bally's Classic vs. Deluxe

I think the difference is one is renovated (Deluxe) %26amp; the other isn%26#39;t (Classic). I am not a 100% sure but I think that is what I have seen before.

From what I hear. Deluxe is the renovated rooms in the North tower. However, the strip view and view of the fountains is the South tower. I don%26#39;t think those rooms have been renovated yet. I booked a Deluxe room. Wish it had good strip views.

The big difference is the bathroom. The deluxe has the sunken jacuzzi tub.

The deluxe are the north tower renovated rooms, the ones with the sunken bath tubs are suites not deluxe rooms

The deluxe rooms are the ones that have been renovated and the classic are the ones that haven%26#39;t.

NBN: Not sure what the difference is frankly. We were booked in a classic in October and requested the North Tower and got North Tower 2226 for five nights. We are again booked for a classic in April and requested North Tower when we made the reservation (in November lol). Both classic and deluxe come up as comped for our stay, so we went with what we know. We%26#39;ve had strip views at the Aladdin, but I was afraid that deluxe meant South Tower given the fact that those rooms have strip views. Don%26#39;t need the view, though it is nice . If I pressed my face against the window in North 2226, I had a partial view of the Bellagio fountains and the Paris balloon anyway. I will ask next month (39 days and counting), if you%26#39;d like me to ask.

NBN: P.S. the room was renovated . Planning on refusing South Tower room if given one next month.

The classic rooms are located in the South tower (non-renovated) thats why their cheaper or free %26amp; the deluxe rooms are located in the North tower (renovated). A lot of guests actually like the non-renovated side because the view is better (of the Strip)...you want rooms that end in 39 or 40.

Thanks to all who replied. It sounds like the way to go is to book the Classic, since it%26#39;s fully comped, and request a renovated room on the reservation and again at check-in. I would rather have a nice room than a good view, but would be willing to take my chances for the price.

  • Beer Pong at O'Shea's?

Being your typical frat boy I have a little bit of a love for beer pong? Whats with this beer pong I hear so much of at O%26#39;Sheas?

    Beer Pong at O'Shea's?

Same as you have played, only in Vegas!!!!!

    Beer Pong at O'Shea's?

okay, I%26#39;ve never been a frat boy.....

    What is beer pong?

you line plastic cups up on both ends of a table, like bowling pins, and each team gets a chance of trying to get a ping pong ball into the cup from the other end of the table, if a ball gets in the cup the defending team must consume the cup of beer. You win by eliminating the other teams cups before they eliminate yours

    see this picture:

    alongyotte.com/platinum_equation/table.jpg

Also I have heard Blondie%26#39;s Sports Bar in the Miracle Mile in Planet Hollywood is really fun (for a younger group)

    What I read was:

Thursdays: Beirut Challenge Night; $15 bottomless beer, $2 Skyy vodka drinks, $40 bottles of Skyy (after 10 p.m.). Must be over 21 with two forms of ID.

    Good luck!

For $23 or $24 dollars they give you two balls (you keep w/ O%26#39;sheas logo), 20 cups, 2 pitchers of beers and two ';rinse'; glasses. Refills on the pitchers are $10.00.

Played a couple games with friends and ended our trip playing my dad, we all had fun. My guess the table is about 8 feet long by 2 feet wide

Once again, this is why I love this forum. I%26#39;m always learning new info. Have to tell my son this one, will be there with a bunch of buddies before his wedding. Sounds like a good cheap way to have some fun. OSheas is a good place. Good, loud crap games going on there, especially in the evenings. Thanks for the info. I%26#39;ve played beer pong, although losing is really winning in that game.

How many table are there and is O%26#39;Sheas small enough that we%26#39;ll be able to find this quite easily?

Change it to Vodka Pong and i%26#39;m in.

four tables behind the bar in the back, right in front of the food court, tough location to beat.

The first time I had seen or heard of Beer Pong was watching Big Brother last summer. They played it all of the time on the After Hours show. So, then when we went to Vegas in June and August we wandered into O%26#39;Sheas, and back by their food court are sure enough long tables set up for people to play Beer Pong. I think if you had a group that would be a lot of fun for a break from whatever else you are doing.

    Party store

Hello....will be arriving in the evening of March 19 and staying at Harrah%26#39;s. Can anyone please advise if there is some kind of party store on our way in that also sells beer/liquor? Thks., in advance.

    Party store

I don%26#39;t have any personal experience with it, but South Pointe Market on Needles Highway as you enter Laughlin from the south may have what you want. See

    their Web page at:

    www.laughlinlocals.com/southpointemarket/

It will be a few miles out of your way if you%26#39;re arriving from the north or east.

    Party store

Thks., hopefully will get someone else to comment.

Adalphes on needles highway in town center is the only true grocery store on this side of town unless you want to go to the gas stations on casino drive. the southpointe convience store and gas station is near town center ....its prices are truly horrific

';party store';?? I remember seeing a couple of ';adult'; stores over in Bullhead City if that is what you are looking for.

If you are from Ontario Calif., it is best to bring your own-- no big bargains in Laughlin.

If that is not possible, I have found some decent prices on liquor at the Booze n%26#39; Butts store inside the Pioneer.

Polkadad gave you the inside scoop from a local.

Actually adalphes in town center has high prices also......but cheaper than the gas stations....if you want better prices drive down 95 on bullhead city side to smiths, wallmart, safeway, wallmart, or sams

Thanks all for info...looks like a run down 95 on Bullhead side, as mentioned by Polkadad, will be the plan.

  • Talk me into a car rental or taxi use

We%26#39;ll be staying at the Venetian for 3 nights in June. We%26#39;ll be going downtown one night for dinner. We plan to see Spamalot and O. I can get a small rental car for about $100 total.

Would a taxi be cheaper? More convenient? Give me your opinion, and I%26#39;ll go with the majority. Thanks!

Talk me into a car rental or taxi use

Without going into detail, I think a cab will be your best chocie here.

Talk me into a car rental or taxi use

I always have a car in Vegas for the convenience but for what you are planning to do-no, you really don%26#39;t need one. You can walk to see Spamalot and a taxi to see O or downtown will be be that much money.

Taxi will definitely be more convenient and cheaper! Cab it downtown for dinner and you can walk to your shows from the Venetian (Wynn and Bellagio). Have a great trip!!

Gee,doc, I didn%26#39;t know you spoke bridgefanese! lol

IMO go with the taxi since it is only for the 3 nights and it seems you are spending most of the time on the strip. Spamalot is near Venetian at Wynn so you can walk and O at Bellagio not far %26amp; cab fare under $10. Rent a car for longer stays %26amp; visits to Red Rocks, VOF, off-strip casino/resorts/restaurants etc. etc. Enjoy!

I%26#39;m not trying to be mean, but I am not sure why someone who is staying at the Venetian is that worried about cost.

I don%26#39;t think there is a right or wrong answer to your question. I think it%26#39;s a preference.

Certainly you could get by nicely without a car. You don%26#39;t need a car.

But, some people enjoy driving around Vegas up and down the Strip, congestion and all. Parking is free and readily available, unless you valet and tip.

Traffic can be a nightmare, especially if you are not used to big city driving. Not everyone is comfortable driving anywhere unfamiliar, let alone a place like Vegas.

To me it is a choice, a preference, not a right or wrong, as long as you have the facts. Any questions you have should be answered on this site.

I rented a car once for a four day trip and I hated it. I felt obligated to use it and the cheapskates that I was traveling with refused to valet it anywhere we went.

If you don%26#39;t valet... and you park... the parking structures are a hike away from the casino. If you leave the car somewhere and walk to the next casino... you have to go back to get the car. Traffic is horrible almost all the time. And, you have to worry about not drinking too much. No one in my group wanted to be the driver because everyone wanted to drink. What a headache. Seriously... the rental ended up ruining that whole vacation.

I won%26#39;t rent a car in vegas ever again.

Thanks. We%26#39;ll go with taxis for the convenience.

To Przyk, perhaps we can afford to stay at the Venetian because we make good financial decisions and find bargains where we can. Anything wrong with not wanting to waste my hard-earned money? I guess we could take a limo everywhere while we%26#39;re staying at the Venetian...if we can afford the Venetian, we may as well throw our money away on limo rides...or NOT! We should probably also order all of our food with gold leaf too.

    Thanks everyone.

    Right on Paleo!

FWIW, I stay cheap and ride around in limo%26#39;s. lol

    Hotel Pools

Will be staying at CC but if i want to use the pool at some other hotel am i allowed?

    Thank you

    Hotel Pools

rio charged $5 weekday $10 weekends last summer, call and ask if it is the same this year

some hotels such as HRH and Palms have ';pool parties'; for a fee

most other hotels do not allow non-guests, and most will check keys during high season.

have you researched CC on this and other websites? It%26#39;s not highly thought of - you might consider changing to a property with a pool that will suit your needs.

    Hotel Pools

I completely agree with Bridgefan! Great post!!!

    Take Care,

    Aimee

Thank you for your reply, my thinking was just when walking thru the casino%26#39;s it might have been fun to sit my a pool and enjoy a drink, it%26#39;s no big deal mind you.

Sahara is a cheapie with a decent pool, that is not as universally reviled as CC.

Price out Excalibur, low price, great location, good pool.

Monte Carlo is affordable luxury, might be up to double CC price, but worth it. Also Luxor, Flamingo.

Harrahs is often a great value and is 3.5 star, though the pool isn%26#39;t much

    Honest review of Planet Hollywood

My hubby and I are planning another trip to vegas and want an honest review of the new planet hollywood. We%26#39;ve stayed at the Monte Carlo, MGM, Ballys and Imperial Palace so we have definately experienced a wide range of hotels. But we would prefer something a little nicer, with alot of amenities. Should we stay here or go back to our favorite, the monte carlo?

    Honest review of Planet Hollywood

My husband and I had the same dilemma when we were deciding on which hotel to choose...do you go to a new hotel or back to the Monte Carlo since we had a good experience there. So we checked rates at just about all the hotels for the week we wanted and Monte came out on top with being the best price. So we figured that we know we like it and my husband loves the pool area at Monte, and how much time are you really in your room anyway so we decided after about a week and a half to go back to Monte Carlo.

    Hope that helps. Good luck.

    Honest review of Planet Hollywood

Were you thinking you may get a dishonest PH review here? We have all taken polygraphs and signed affidavits of truthivity. Any violators will forfeit their TA hats, T-shirts, plastic baggies and luggage tags. So you see there is no danger of getting prevaracatory information. I haven%26#39;t been to the PH since the redo but loved the Original Alladin in the 80%26#39;s, for what it%26#39;s worth.

I was there in Sept 07 and did a review...if interested in reading it, it%26#39;s available under ';search';....btw it was honest and positve or... they are real and fantastic!

i think everyone%26#39;s reviews are likely honest...

    but everyone%26#39;s reality is different.

The two big changes since the aladdin was converted that I strongly dislike are the LOUD music in the casino and the comps were tightened way too much. no more free rooms, no $59 rooms unless you are approaching high roller status.

if a pool is important to you, the one at PH is rather sterile....IP%26#39;s is nicer

i stay at planet hollywood often (and when it was aladdin). probably 12 times in the last five years. the comps have tightened, in my opinion, but i do still get free room offers, and i am NOT a high roller. i do like the loud music in the casino. to me, the casino ';vibe'; is positive, fun and enjoyable. their poker room is perfect for me. big enough to attract plently of games, yet small enough that the dealers remember you. i really like the new place. the pool area is a bit lame compared to other places, but i gamble more than swim, so it doesn%26#39;t bother me. it is very conveniently located on the strip. i do think the monte carlo is a better ';bargain'; though. so if you do need to really watch the pocketbook, i bet you would get more over there.

We didn%26#39;t stay there but we went into the casino in January. It was our first time at that hotel and we were very impressed. It is really nice and I don%26#39;t remember the music being too loud but I do remember it being good music. From what we saw, we really liked it, nice and roomy, clean, we just got a good feeling about it. I would try it if I were you!

We did not stay there, but we did gamble there. As gamblers (not high rollers) we were not impressed. We like to gamble where we stay to optimize whatever we can get out of the property. We decided to check out the ';new'; Planet Ho last September. I don%26#39;t remember loud music, but waiting for drink service was like waiting for a snail to go a mile. That kept us from wanting to go back. If I%26#39;m gambling, I at least want a free drink! I really don%26#39;t expect to win, but I like the thrills. Although the theme was cool and they have great shows there. We just like to opt for pocket friendly places so we can save the rest for gambling.

    Flamingo, Bally's, Harrah's or IP

Just got my May offers in the mail....have only stayed at Flamingo in a regular room....not impressed......

For FREE which one would you choose.......Flamingo, Bally%26#39;s, Harrah%26#39;s or IP?

Pool is important....not for the looks or size but crowd wise....Don%26#39;t want to be too crowded at the pool, prefer one that is less busy....

    Thoughts????

    Flamingo, Bally's, Harrah's or IP

Flamingo%26#39;s room are horrible. I willnot stay at that hotel regardless of how nice the pool is. I had a dirty room, and a horrible stay during my one stay at the Flamingo. I have stayed at Harrahs. Not sure on the pool too be honest. My vote actually goes to Paris via the offer you just received. Good pool and good hotel.

    Flamingo, Bally's, Harrah's or IP

I would say Bally%26#39;s, we stayed there in Jan and loved it. Our room was comped but they gave us a huge room in the north tower, it was very nice with a nice bathroom and everything was very clean. Loved that Ballys is connected to Paris. All the employees we delt with were wonderful and loved how easy it is to navigate the hotel and casino. I would definitely stay there again. The pool area looked okay but really didn%26#39;t pay that much attention, it was cold when we were there.

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful trip.

Bingokitty: I%26#39;d pick Ballys. stayed there in October; staying there again in April. 37 days and counting lol. Can%26#39;t comment on pool; we live in Florida with two pools close by our condo unit. It looks clean and never looked too busy. Food choices are plentiful , the inner walkway connection to Paris opens up another casino , the center strip location is untouchable. We were Aladdin/Planet Hollywood regulars (5 visits) and were a little leery because the casino is smallish. We were comped and requested a North Tower room and it was huge, clean and quiet. Elevators came right away, every time day or night. Room keys worked first time, every time. Never had to ask for extra tissues, toiletries; room was always mystically cleaned while we were out. Frankly gambled a lot at Flamingo, but used players card points towards our room charges. I tend to judge a hotel by the common area bathrooms. Need I say more about Flamingo and Imperial Palace. People on this forum tend to complain quite a bit that Harrahs is noisy due to the Carnival Court music. Lastly, of the four choices, Ballys is rated highest on this site, as far as rankings go. We stay Monday thru Saturday and were checked in to a North Tower room so fast, I didn%26#39;t have time to get my itinerary back in my carryon. One small down side is the $3 a day safe fee. Also the 24 hour restaurant is only open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday. Sunday through Thursday they are open from 7am (I think ) til 3pm.

Hi bingo, Ip%26#39;s pool is %26#39;arguably%26#39; one of the worst in Vegas or should I say not very appealing to party at. Harrahs is just a simple Olympic size square high school pool, nothing fancy. When I was there it was not crowded but there is not a lot of hanging out space. You already have your opinion of Flamingo. I have never stayed at Bally%26#39;s but I know of 3 different families friends that just love the place. In my opinion Harrahs or Bally%26#39;s. Post again, and ask strictly, Harrahs pool or Bally%26#39;s pool . That will narrow it down. They are both highly regarded hotels. Good Luck in deciding.

Whenever I look out from my room at the Flamingo I never see anyone in the IP pool, if that helps you at all.

Hey Sage, Another Chicago local. Do you ever wonder why there is very few people at IP%26#39;s pool? I don%26#39;t think I have to say anymore. I%26#39;ll be there again in July and my son and I will be playing Pong at IP but staying at Orleans. Bingo, again, post again for pool advice.

Sorry bingo, I need to clarify, post Bally%26#39;s pool, Harrah%26#39;s pool or IP%26#39;s pool.

Hey chichips- I was just answering as to what was important per the post. Don%26#39;t want to be in a crowded pool, doesn%26#39;t care the size or looks of it. Every time I%26#39;ve looked out the window at the IP pool it fits all of those requirements. I personally would stay at Ballys or Harrahs since bingokitty doesn%26#39;t like the Flamingo.

I wouldn%26#39;t choose any of them, free or not.

That should not inlfuence you - don%26#39;t ask us what we would do - gives us your priorities and ask what fits them best.

since your priority is a pool that isn;t too crowded and not The Flam since you don%26#39;t like the rooms (neither do I) I%26#39;m not sure you%26#39;ll like any of the other 3, none have great rooms - the pool is an unknown as far as crowds, all depends on capacity.

Of the 3 remaining the one most likely to fill your needs is probably Bally%26#39;s, don;t expect to be impressed, but you know that, so it%26#39;s fine.

They are MUCH better rooms since you are not there bridgy.

Obviously the poster has free rooms at one of these properties based on their offer.

SO WHY DO YOU ANSWER WITH YOUR STANDARD ';I HATE HARRAHS';???????????

This forum will be a much better place when you move on. So please do it sooner than later. I am sure your grandkids would love the money.

driving from Las Vegas to Palm Springs...!!!

Hi...have never been to Vegas , so we are planning a 3 nite stay, then driving to Palm Springs (again never been), and will be there for 4 days.

Any suggestions as to what sights are along the way???

Would like to see the Grand Canyon and of course some of the strip attractions.

We would arrive Las Vegas Thursday then drive to Palm Springs on Sunday late afternoon..the hotel rates really jump from night to night, because of the weekend, so would we be better spending Thur. nite on the strip, and then going a little further away on the other two nights???

    Sorry to ramble..getting excited....

    Many thanks

driving from Las Vegas to Palm Springs...!!!

Ah, one of my favorit methods - sort of....

Every year I do a trip similar to that - I start out in Vegas during the week, drive to L.A. for the weekend, and then to Palm Springs for a 2-day/1-night stay, and then drive up to Vegas to complete the trip.

By starting mid-week in Vegas, I get the lower rates there, and when the rates jump up in Vegas for the weekend, I drive out to L.A. There are good deals in L.A. on the weekends because business travelers go home and leave lot of hotels empty. So I usually drive out on Fri. morning and stay till Sunday, and then on Sunday I drive to Palm Springs. I usually spend only one, sometimes 2 nights in Palm Springs, then I drive up to Vegas THROUGH THE DESERT, NOT ON I-15. Much more pleasant and scenic.

I will be doing this trip starting this coming Monday, actually.

Anyway, my advice to you is to go to Palm Springs on Friday and stay till Sunday, and then return to Vegas Sunday afternoon. I think you%26#39;ll get a much better deal on hotels in Vegas this way.

In Palm Springs, it%26#39;s all about quiet, relaxation, and the desert. Vegas is more about all-around fun, whether it be excitement or relaxation - you have your choice. So finishing up in Vegas lets you really relax and do what you want. Also, doing it this way you get all the driving out of the way. It%26#39;s not as relaxing when you have to drive back to Vegas only to pack up and leave for home within a day.

Also, make sure you do the drive through the desert. From I-15, get on Nipton Rd just after the CA/NV border, then drive down the Kelso/Cima Rd. through the Mojave National Preserve. At Kelso, go South (a left turn after the big train station that%26#39;s there) onto Kelbaker Rd, and follow that down PAST I-40. When you come to a ';T';, turn right and that will take you a few miles to Amboy, recognizable by all the ';Roy%26#39;s'; stuff there - Roy%26#39;s dinere, gas station, etc. Here, you will turn LEFT and follow this road (Amboy Road) all the way to 29 Palms. At Rt. 167 in 29 Palms, turn right and follow this all the way to Palm Springs (you will pass I-10 when you are close to Palm Springs).

Along this route you can see a lot of beautiful desert scenery, varying from mountains to lava fields and a bit off the path are even sand dunes. Cima is a ghost town and so is Kelso, although Kelso has a restored train station. These are REAL ghost towns, not redone as attractions, so they are old shacks and buildings, and actually mostly the crumbling foundations and remains of buildings. In Amboy you have all the Roy%26#39;s stuff, and after 29 Palms when you get to Joshua Tree (the town) you will see the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park, so that%26#39;s another option.

In the Palm Springs area, you have Tahquitz Canyon where you can hike and see petroglyphs, you also have the Palm Springs tram which goes up the mountain. Not too far from Palm Springs you will find ';the Living Desert';, a beautiful little zoo/gardens which is well worth visiting - i love that place. I also like to go to Indio to Shields%26#39; Date Gardens, where they give samples of dates and sell dates and date products. The ';Date Shake'; is very popular throughout the desert cities area.

Anyway, take my advice, I think it will save you money and even some time as you avoid crowds in Vegas this way, and it will be easier and more enjoyable. By the way, the Grand Canyon does not fit into this trip - that is about 6 to 8 hours the opposite direction from Vegas. Make that a separate trip.

PM me if you want more info, I%26#39;d be happy to help. I%26#39;m actually doing this trip (modified though) starting this Monday, I%26#39;m doing Vegas for two days, then San Diego for 2 days, then L.A. for the weekend, then Palm Springs a week from Monday, returning to Vegas the following Tues. night and returning home Sunday the 23rd. I%26#39;m taking my friend who has never been further west than Louisiana, so it%26#39;s his first time to all of this.

Have fun planning !!! Let us know how things go!

driving from Las Vegas to Palm Springs...!!!

Fabulous suggestions---it%26#39;s one of my favorite areas too. I love deserts almost as much as I love the beach....sigh.

One bit of info we%26#39;ll need is when (approximately) you plan to travel, as that part of the world can get a bit roasty toasty in the summertime!

One of my favorite spots is Joshua Tree. The desert actually changes from high to low halfway through the park and you can see the difference in terrain, plants, etc. If you%26#39;re there during wildflower season (springtime), wow is all I can say---and that%26#39;s for the WHOLE desert region (though flowering times vary with altiude and location, if you want info on that just ask).

Check out some of the other forums on places you%26#39;ve mentioned for advice on things to see and places to go. I agree, being out of Vegas for the weekend is a good idea. You can relax in Palm Springs, although there are several nice little casino resorts in the immediate vicinty, too :-)

And do be sure to have a date shake (yummM!) AND, when in Las Vegas, a slushie drink from downtown on Fremont Street :-)

Thankyou so much...I may end up asking more questions, especially after you have come back from your trip!! The fun part now is checking out the guide books, maps, web site etc.

We have to fly into Vegas on the Thurs (Jan 31), and leave from Palm Springs on the following Fri(Feb 8), as their is a great seat sale ($700.00 for the 2 of us), and its usually $1400.00!!!

    Once again, many thanks..

That%26#39;s a good time---not too hot at all, though the nights can be chilly (probably not as chilly as where you%26#39;re from, though!). Might be rain too, you never know.

Planning the trip is half the fun. Enjoy!

Johnny: great reply. It almost makes up for your trolling re day care and cheap beer!!

While driving from L.A. to Vegas, I sometimes take the 40 from Barstow, and then drive through the desert via Kelso and Cima, getting back on the 15 at the Nipton or Cima entrances. It is a great detour to take for the scenery and the history.

I nevdr drove the rest of the way, between Palm Springs and the I-40, but you make me want to try it. But only if I can find some cheap beer to feed to the kids to keep them quiet.

    Battlscar

Kitty - deserts and beaches are pretty much my favorites, too. If you think about it, a beach is nothing more than a little piece of desert next to an ocean!!!

Mike45 - I%26#39;m glad this post helps me make partial amends for my trolling. I also love that area of the Mojave Preserve, it%26#39;s definitely worth the side-trip for the history and scenery. I wasn%26#39;t aware that they are going to make the Mojave Preserve a national park, but it makes sense, it should be one. As for what to do with the kids, I don%26#39;t know about giving them cheap beer - it%26#39;s kind of a waste, better to drink it yourself. The best thing to do with the kids is take them to Vegas and then give them $20 and drop them off at the NYNY arcade and then go and gamble for a couple hours while they%26#39;re busy spending the 20 bucks on video games. ;)

Oops, left out my reply to the OP, Battlescar!!!

Battlescar, I was unaware of the situation with your airfare deal. If that%26#39;s the only way to save that much, then you%26#39;re better off just doing it as you originally planned. I find it odd, though, that flying into one place and out of the other would be cheaper than flying round trip to LAS only. Also, have you checked with the car rental agency about additional fees for picking up a car in LAS and dropping it off in Palm Springs? My experience is that there is normally a charge for that and it can be steep.

In any case, definitely do what works best for your budget; however, be sure you%26#39;ve checked all your options before finalizing your plans. Good luck! Feel free to reach me if you need anything else. :) Have fun planning!!!

    Hi all,

I will be driving to desert hills premium outlet (near palm springs) on a sunday morning in Mid april from LA. Will spend the whole Sunday shopping there and probably leave at 6pm from the Outlet to Vegas

I am consider staying a night in Barstow coz I might arrive about 2 1/2 hrs, have not booked any hotel there yet coz haven%26#39;t really decide whether to drive all the way to Vegas (I might be dead tired and afraid no rooms in vegas or having to drive around on a Sunday night time searching for one) or stay a night in Barstow.

Has anyone stayed in Barstow? Any decent hotel just for a rest for the night to recommend? Have not booked any rooms in Barstow as well, I wouldn%26#39;t have any problems finding one right??

    Thanks..

    Anyone stay at Silverton recently?

We like to split our stay between Strip and Off Strip.

Last couple of years the Silverton has looked appealing to me for our off strip stay.

Any thoughts on the pool and casino?

Normally we stay at the Orleans for our off strip time, but honestly, the offers for when we are there are just not that good for the amount of $$ we spend gambling there..... we get better offers from the Harrahs group where we have not stayed for 3 years and have spent less................

I%26#39;d like to give the Silverton a try...

    Anyone stay at Silverton recently?

You will find the Silverton rooms much nicer than the Orleans. Silverton crowd is fun locals crowd. Casino looks like a casino to me! Nice dining and mermaids swimming in a tank at main bar! I have not used their pool so I can%26#39;t say.

    Anyone stay at Silverton recently?

Was there last week in february, small rooms and even smaller bathroom. Dark lighting in room. But for the price i would stay there again. there was some minor construction going on outside. love the casino.

We just returned from a week in vegas. Silverton was one of our favorite finds. The casino is great and you seem to get lots of play for your buck at the machines. The coctail waitresses set out to find and serve you. The dealers were friendly too. Our friends stayed down the street at South Point. They liked the room just fine and we loved that place too. The buffet at South Point is about a half step better in my opinion. Either place you can%26#39;t go wrong.

    Weather in April

Anyone know what the weather is usually like in April?? My girlfriend and I are going the 1st week in April!!!

    Weather in April

Weather.com has a thiry day forecast of average temps. Basically it%26#39;s 70%26#39;s during the day but can get cool at night.

    Weather in April

you can know what the wether is ';usually like'; at anytime in the year by checking your fav weather website, of which there are at least 20.

    or the LVRJ or www.lasvegasadvisor.com

just as in your neck of the woods ';usually like'; has no guarantte for the dates you are visiting. check the 5 day forcast 10 min beofre you walk out your door, that will be the most accurate.

    Oh no not again.

I can tell you what the records show for the first week in April. But that really isn%26#39;t going to do you much good. The weather can vary a great deal during that time of the year. What it is like one year has nothing to do with what it is like other years.

The average high- mid 70s. But the high can range from the low 50s to the 90s. The average low-low 50s. But again- it can range from the 30s to the 60s. Some year I was able to swim in April- other years just sunbathe while still other years it was just too cool, cloudy or windy to do either.

The only way to know what it is going to be like during your trip is to check a weather site just before leaving so you will know if it is going to be in the 50s or 90s. Having someone tell you what is was like any other year is really not going to be helpful to you.

    http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/vef/climate/page6.php

When visiting in the spring, fall or winter- it is best to bring clothes that can be layered.

Vp03: I like all your weather related answers, you have so much patience. I recommend you should write a generic weather for each month and put it in the stickies so all inquisitive travelers can refer to.

We were in Vegas a couple of years ago during the 1st week in April and it got downright cold at night. It was in the low to mid 40s. Take clothes you can layer. During the day it can get quite warm.

It will probably be warm (to you - since you are from NY) - 70%26#39;s and maybe 80%26#39;s. That%26#39;s what we had last week even. Hope you guys have a great trip!

There%26#39;s no sign that says ';NO DANCING';. You can dance, but no one really dances there. It%26#39;s just a lounge with an awesome view of the strip on the balcony. The glass for is kind of scary, but it%26#39;s kind of all scratched up so you can%26#39;t really see well through it.

    Please we need your help!!

Hi we are debating staying at a hotel downtown for 2 days and staying at 2 other hotels on the strip for the remainder of the time. My question is we have a shuttle to the first hotel and a shuttle to the airport from the last hotel, what is the best way to get to the other hotels without costing an arm and a leg for a taxi? Any hotel suggestions? We have thought of Golden Nugget downtown and Mandalay Bay and MGM Grand on the strip. Thanks for your help!

    Please we need your help!!

    Rent a car

    Walk

    Taxi

    Please we need your help!!

I%26#39;m guessing the last post could hae been more helpful - but that%26#39;s just me! There are no shuttles too hotels that I know of - taxis, limos and independent shuttle busses do the majority of the work unless you rent a car. That being said, if you come in late in the day, renting a car (the smallest you can get) may easily get you an upgrade since all the ones you reserve are gone.

Limos are fun if you have never done one -taxis are quick and cheapish.....personal preference...

If you have stayed at Imperial Palace do they have...

If you stayed a IP do they have hair dyers in the bath or do I need to bring my own? I could not find any thing on the website.

If you have stayed at Imperial Palace do they have...

Most hotels do have hair dryers in the bathroom now.

If you have stayed at Imperial Palace do they have...

DH and I stayed there last year and there was one of the small dryers attached to the wall in the bathroom.

Thanks so much for the replies- they usually tell you on the website, but I could not find it.

I don%26#39;t recall, have curly hair has to dry on its own or we get a frizz bomb, however, I recall at Planet Hollywood we just called the operator and asked for one, they brought it up, we tipped them a dollar and we were good. I expect if they don%26#39;t have on in the room, you should be able to call to get one. You could call the 1-800 number and ask as well I suppose if you need one for sure :)

They have a telephone at the casino

It was just one of those dinky ones%26#39; but they do have them in the room!

Just booked trip-Now have a stupid question...

I just booked our first trip to Vegas! Now I have a stupid question to ask. It%26#39;s been a while since we%26#39;ve traveled anywhere by plane...do they send us tickets by mail or is sheet with the confirmation number I printed off our ticket? I couldn%26#39;t find anywhere on the site that let me know...I booked it at Vegas.com. If anyone could let me know it would be appreciated!

Just booked trip-Now have a stupid question...

The sheet with your confirmation # should be your ticket. Airlines actually charge extra for paper tickets these days.At least the ones that I use do. I do not know about Vegas.com, but when I book direct thru the airline, the paper with conf.# is the ticket.

Just booked trip-Now have a stupid question...

If you have a confirmation number for a particular airline, go to their site and plug it in - I just booked tickets for my daughter and myself with capital one and they said we couldn%26#39;t get seats. Since it was Alaksa Airlines, once I had the confirmation code I went to their site and picked the sites. Just check it out that whay.....then you can get what you want and be sure you are confirmed..not to say you won%26#39;t have to confirm right before depature.

It is absolutely critical to obtain your airline confirmation code/number - usually a string of six alpha/numeric characters. Especially if you%26#39;ve booked via a third party.

You%26#39;ll want to make sure the airline (and you can usually check this on their website - if not, pick up the phone and call) has your reservation and that it%26#39;s correct - names, dates, times, etc., and that it%26#39;s properly confirmed, if necessary. And, pick seats as soon as possible. It%26#39;s also a good idea to check your reservation now and again, and definitely a few days/the day before leaving home, to verify flight numbers and times. Often there are schedule changes, and a third party may not notify you, or even the airline if you%26#39;re not signed up with them for e-mail, etc., alerts.

    Comp Question

I am staying at Paris next week and was wondering if some of the more experienced Total Rewards members could help me out. I am only gold card holder but I have played enough to get our room for the weekend comped, but I am wondering how getting food, etc comped works?

Do you have to use your Rewards points at the time of purchase? For example, do you pay with your rewards card when you eat? Or do you just charge everything to your room and work it out at check out?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Comp Question

HI! Just got back from Paris......hope I can help you...

All you need to do is charge EVERYTHING to your room.....(meals, shows, etc.)that is associated w/ HET properties. You can eat at Caesar%26#39;s, Flamingo, Bally%26#39;s....etc. and still put on room at Paris. Then before you check-out, go to the Diamond check-in and talk to a host. There are always two hosts on duty...with desks right in the check-in area. The host will look at your play, and determine what charges can be removed. HOWEVER, they will use your accumulated reward credits (comps) first before they take off additional complimentaries.

    HAVE FUN!!! Good luck!!

    Comp Question

Charge it to your room and they will use points to pay for it at check out. Very easy.

You really don%26#39;t need to speak to a host. They will only comp what you have points for anyway. This can be done at check out.

Thanks for all the quick feedback.

Vegasdragon is right....you DON%26#39;T have to talk to a host, the regular check out clerk can deduct your RC%26#39;s toward your final bill.

HOWEVER.....the last time I was at Paris, I had accumulated over $400 of RC%26#39;s. My host told me that even if I hadn%26#39;t had that much ';comp money'; to spend, that he would have deducted all my charges anyway. (NO, I did not accumulate $400 of RC%26#39;s on just that trip....it was my total from previous trips, as well.

Anyway....my theory is.....it never hurts to ask!

    This is for Texas:

I have been staying at Paris/Ballys the last 6 years or so.

Before it went over to Total Rewards I used to get lots of comps over the RC%26#39;s at checkout.

Since Total Rewards I gets lots of free offers for rooms and still collect RC%26#39;s at about the same rate but they hardly budge on anything over the RC%26#39;s at checkout.

Now I am no high roller (or medium roller) but do spend my share at the tables and/or slots.

Has anyone else noticed a big chance of comps over the RC%26#39;s with Total Rewards?

I think I have like $95 in RC going into this trip from playing at Harrah%26#39;s Rincon in San Diego so I was thinking of using that to eat, etc this trip.

To see how much $$$ I have for the trip is it $1 = 100 RC?

Always, ALWAYS talk to the host.Don%26#39;t just talk to them, make friends with them. These people have much power to comp as they see fit.

yes, bball....for example 3,425 would be $34.25. You can swipe your card at restaurants and gift shops at the time of purchase, but I just always put it on the room and deal with it all at the end of my stay.

And.....YES!! YES!! YES!! Nonfiction diction.......the comps s**k now, compared to when they weren%26#39;t Total Rewards. I used to get all kinds of perks and $$$ in the mail....those days are all but gone. The comp value is out the roof. You have to lose tons of money just to get a sandwich! I remember the days when I would play a while, then get hungry....go to a host and say that I%26#39;m hungry and get a voucher for a meal for two at any restaurant! HA! Those days are LONG gone. I sure do miss them.

    Thanks Texas.

I was thinking the same thing.

Have you changed to a new family of casinos?

    What do you recommend.

  • Weddings in Las Vegas

    Hi all,

Hoping someone can give me some guidance, I (well, we...) are thinking about getting married at one of the hotels on Las Vegas Strip, we went there on holiday a couple of years ago and now the time has come for a wedding and we are considering these hotels may just do the trick.

Anyway, it is at the moment a choice between The Bellagio or The Venetian....

    Any tips anybody?

Also, we have three neices and nephews between us who will all be under 5 at the time we propose to get married, how is Vegas for kids???

Thanks - looking forward to any responses

    Weddings in Las Vegas

This site should help get you started...

    http://www.las-vegas-weddings.co.uk/

    Weddings in Las Vegas

just a quick word about Bellegio, they do not bend at all on outside vendors. So if you%26#39;d like to hire a photographer, or bring in your own flowers or cake etc it%26#39;s a complete no go. Everything has to be ';bellegio standard';. If you love what they have and want to pay the hefty $$$, than your all set! :)

I%26#39;ve heard nothing about the Venetian, most weddings I%26#39;ve reviewed/read about there took place not in the chapel but out on the street/promenade or in a gondola. lol

Both chapels are older world style, I suppose upscale/stiff looking, as you%26#39;ve probably seen from pictures/videos on the websites. Not my style but many love it. If that%26#39;s your type of decor, I would suggest checking out PARIS as well, they%26#39;re abit cheaper and the chapels are wee bit prettier, imo. (but still the same style)

If your looking for complete modern, Mandalay Bay %26amp; Wynn are the top 2 with brides. Again not frugal at all for the 12 minutes you%26#39;ll spend there but they are nice.

Kids, hmm. do a search up top, you%26#39;ll find many many threads with tips/advice/opinions on kids in Vegas.

    Congrats on your wedding!

My only suggestion is to verify with your family

about the children. A lot of people whoop it up

when they first hear...';wedding in Vegas'; - but

unless your family has more than average cash it

can be a real burden on them financially to bring

the kids beside the money they will already be

paying for flight, hotel and food. Not cheap.

Even if they leave the kids home...who do they stay

with?? etc. One parent might decide to stay home

and you don%26#39;t want that either.

And if money is no object than go for it!

    GOOD LUCK

I would definitely recommend checking out Mandalay Bay%26#39;s wedding service as well. I was peaking in and it looks gorgeous!

I am getting married in April and I looked at all possibilties for weddings. I found the hotel chapels very expensive for what you get. After extensive research I have opted for a wedding in a Chapel off the strip. Again after extensive research I opted for Chapel of Flowers, they had excellent reviews in numerous forums and I also know someone who got married there and they too recommended. Have a look at their website.

Good luck with your organising. P.S sorry can%26#39;t offer advice about children. We decided no children felt journey too far.

I hate to say this but the Venitian is WORSE when it comes to outside vendors. Even when the client works for the hotel, they want every dime spent ';IN HOUSE'; with house vendors. Great places you are considering...but not at all like the old Vegas. Corporate-town now baby!

hi there - congratulations! We got married on the Bellagio Terrace overlooking their lake and fountains just over a year ago and it was wonderful. The fountains play for you at the end of the ceremony and it was really lovely. It doesn%26#39;t have to cost a fortune either - their cheapest package in the chapel costs $1500 (around 拢750) and this gets you your minister, music, flowers and photography. Our wedding coordinator was very helpful - and as we%26#39;re from the UK too that was important - and it was all pretty effortless.

Vegas is not set up for kids, but there were 5 under 16s in our wedding party and they enjoyed the hotel pool, Grand Canyon and rides at the Stratosphere. For kids under 5 the parents may want to look at Circus Circus.

Whatever you decide to do, have a great time.

We were married at the Venetian 5 years ago on a bridge overlooking the canal. It was lovely and the staff was very, very helpful. I cannot recommend it enough for your special day. I used their photographer, minister, florist, etc. and was very happy. I had hair and make up done at their salon-Canyon Ranch, and I used a restaurant in their facility-Zefferino for my reception. Wonderful experience.

According to the site%26#39;s own description, the $1500 Bellagio package includes only videography. Any actual photography is optional.

We were married at PH last August, it was way beyond our expectations. The reason we chose this was it was originally The Aladdin where Elvis married Priscilla.

Have you ever had to justify why you go to Vegas..

I am happily married with children. I have been to vegas 5 times in 5 years and headed there in june,my family always ask why I feel the need to go so often when there are other things that I could do with my money. I am grown and married and a stay at home mom, I make my money as a freelance photographer, vegas is my time to be anything but responsible and my family just doesn%26#39;t get it. My bills are paid and I have no debt, but they still want to know why I love vegas so much. And I always respond with %26#39; do you ever go to on vacation and come back with more than you left with, no, because that would be called working, Has anyone ever questioned your fondness of vegas, and if so what is your favorite debate?

Have you ever had to justify why you go to Vegas..

You have appropriately addressed your own situation, and you are an adult so really don%26#39;t owe anyone an explanation...I am an adult (actually old), and my mother still rolls her eyes when I tell her we are going to Vegas again but knows better than to ask me why! LOL

Have you ever had to justify why you go to Vegas..

    Favotite Debate,FUN,FUN,FUN!!!

topeka, when do the moms stop with the eye rolling, heck i am 30.

When we booked our 3rd trip in 10 months and I put in my holiday chit at work they asked where we were going ';Vegas'; I replied ';what again';, ';yeah and your problem is'; I just put it down to them being jealous and of course I get great delight singing Viva Las Vegas in the office. Never have to justify where we go, we work hard and we play even harder in Vegas.

K-Each time I go it is a new experience, upgrade in hotel etc..I don%26#39;t know if I will ever get tired of going..

My Mom will be 82 this year! LOL

    Topeka- The mothering never stops!!lol

After 60+ trips- nobody really questions me anymore. However- there was never any debate! I never felt I had to explain or justify my vacation plans to anyone! Nor do I expect anyone to explain their plans to me - unless I decide to pay for their entire trip (which I never do!).

We have just booked to go to Vegas for the second time later this year and I got the same sort of reaction.

I think it is a bit of snobbery with some people. They see Vegas as tacky and nasty and not ';cultured'; enough.

I don%26#39;t care - I LOVE the place for all its tack and nast!

Well, the religious right think I am going to hell.

Luckily for me, I am Jewish.

    Traveling Alone

I%26#39;m going to Vegas from september 8th till 19th and will be traveling alone for the first time in my life. Anybode else traveling alone in that period?

Do some of you have experience with being on your one in Las Vegas? Do you guys have suggestions about where i can eat without feeling awkward etc.

    Traveling Alone

I love going to vegas alone. I do what I want, when ever I want. Just enjoy your self.

Dine where ever you want to, One good tip is to take along some reading material to keep yourself busy while you wait for your food.

    Traveling Alone

I almost always go to Vegas alone- I prefer it that way. You can make your own schedule without having to consult anyone about anything. It is totally selfish ';me'; time! What should you do? Anything and everything everyone else does! Don%26#39;t let the fact that you are alone in any way influence where you go, where you eat, where you stay, etc. I have eaten alone at the cheapie places (Ellis Island; In N Out Burger) but I have also eaten alone at the better restaurants (Rosemary%26#39;s).Some people prefer to eat at buffets or at the bars in restaurants. I don%26#39;t-I am on vacation and I deserve better than that! I do sometiems eat earlier than I usually do so I can get a table with a view. You can get tickets to shows easier when you are alone- you only need one seat!

Plan you trip as if other people were with you- and then go! You will find people are very friendly in Vegas. Forget your mother%26#39;s warning- Do talk to strangers. It is easy to start a conversation and make temporary new friends!

Safety is not an issue if you use common sense. I have been on the strip, off strip and downtown alone(day and night) and nothing- absolutely nothing- bad has ever happened to me. btw- I am female.

Again-plan to do what you want to do and forget about the fact that you are alone. I have never felt awkward, bored or lonely on my solo trips!

    Have fun!

12 days in Vegas is a LONG time, whether alone, with your honey, or a large group. As much as I love Vegas, that is too much time for me. I would recommend heading out of town for a few days, see some of the National Parks. Do an overnight at the Grand Canyon. You could also head up to Bryce and Zion Parks for another overnight. Renting a car is the best way to do this.

I have gone by myself for a few days. I usually bring something to read when I eat in case the people watching gets dull.

When you travel alone you can eat anywhere you want without feeling awkward. If you are more comfortable at the restaurant bar, eat there. I think sometimes people tend to feel self-conscious when they sit at a table alone; but there%26#39;s no reason. People are usually paying attention to their own party rather than looking at you. I found all the servers I dealt with while dining alone to be very friendly, too.

I went to a couple of shows alone and found some of the people near me to be alone also, so it made me feel better (and gave me someone to chit-chat with while waiting for the show to start).

Traveling in Vegas alone is different than when you go with others, but the freedom to do whatever you want whenever you want is great!

    Have fun!

I almost always go to Vegas by myself.

1 of the good things about it is you don%26#39;t have to listen to others to decide where to eat. You can eat when ever you want where ever you want and have what ever you want. Another thing, just because you go alone certainly does not mean you need to spend all your time alone. If you get in the mood for company, its easy to find in Vegas. Enjoy your trip.

Eating at the bar area of restaurants is a good idea. Many casino coffee shops (much different than the coffee shops in Amsterdam by the way) have counters where you can eat and you will find many other solo travelers.

Many Americans never travel outside of the USA, so I think you will find Americans curious about your background and culture and quite interested in conversing with you.

You can sometimes strike up a conversation with someone sitting next to you at a slot machine without a problem.

I think in Vegas more so than other travel destinations people who travel together tend to split up to gamble, so you will find more people wandering around by themselves.

I have done Vegas twice on my own. I never felt awkward in a restaurant etc. and it%26#39;s a great time to do what you want, when you want to do it. Enjoy.

Do go to shows alone in Vegas, please!

There are lots of posts here about solo travel, please use the search feature above and type in variousthings like ';solo travel'; ';traveling alone'; etc and read the many infomrative posts there.

If you join Las Vegas Advisor at Www.lasvegasadvisor.com, they will send you a Pocketful of Values coupon book and it is one of the few coupon books that has 50% coupons for singles to use for dinners, buffets, etc. instead of the usual ';Buy one get one free'; coups that are useless to single travelers.

You`ll be fine and if you`re at a buffet you may not have to worry about having any reading material while waiting to be served !!

Must say you are there for a long time so as others have mentioned, you may wish to consider going on a couple of side trips (if you hav`nt booked hotel yet remember vegas prices rise at weekends, so you could leave city on Friday and return on Sunday when rates go down....Tucson maybe an option, less than 50 min flight with some interesting sights for couple of days ).

Thanks for all the tips! I%26#39;m sure i%26#39;ll have a good time. Even on my own! I%26#39;m indeed planning to go out of town a couple of times.

    Monster burger

Is the small casino still open? how much is the Monster Burger?

    thanks

    Monster burger

I believe you speak of the Nugget for the Awful-Awful Burger. I believe the price is holding at $5.50....? Is this still correct, Harrahs?

    Monster burger

That%26#39;s it Awful not Monster. sorry.

So it%26#39;s still open? the Nugget?

never herd of the monster burger here in Reno, but there is a burger that used to excist called the awful, awful burger down town Reno at the old nugget club.things have changed here in Reno and so has that burger and its price,.it used to be $3.75 and to big to finish, served with fries in a big basket loaded.now the awful, awful is just a burger like any other place out there,.it used to be a world famus burger,...its rep now is to high priced and theres more bun than meat, the onions and tomatoes are more than the burger its self,.I think there charging now,..like $5.50 with low quality meat,.this burger is now down hill,.sad to say.I my self loved going down town for one of these burgers when it was as they called it,the world famous awful, awful.

    Hey

anybody knows if it%26#39;s loud at caesars right now ? i will be staying at the augustus tower in may and hope for a pleasant stay without any noises

    noise level @ Caesars Palace?(construction)

We stayed at Caesars in Augusta Tower %26amp; heard no noise at all. We were on the 23rd floor, so maybe that is why but it was nice %26amp; quiet %26amp; even at the pool I didn%26#39;t hear that much noise.

    noise level @ Caesars Palace?(construction)

Construction of the new Octavius Tower has only gotten underway in the last few weeks so it%26#39;s probably too early for anybody to be aware of just how it will impact on hotel guests.

I would ask this question again a couple of weeks before your trip. By then people should have more idea about this and may be able to suggest which rooms (if any) in Augustus Tower are to be avoided.

I wouldn%26#39;t say the constuction just got underway. It started late last year and they are already on the third floor.

If you are on a higher floor facing the strip, you should be fine.

How long do I wait to book hotel?

    Hello!

We are going to Vegas May31-June8th. I have booked through hotels.com and then found a better deal through hotels websites. Haven%26#39;t booked though and over the last few months have seen the price drop at least $70 a night! How long should I wait? Won%26#39;t the prices go up at some point? We kept the air and trasfers just canceled the hotel.

How long do I wait to book hotel?

If you book through the hotel, books as early as possible. If the rate goes down, just call and they will adjust it.

How long do I wait to book hotel?

If you%26#39;re booking directly with the hotel then there%26#39;s no such thing as booking too early. If the rates come down just call them and they%26#39;ll adjust your stay to the new lower rates. If they go up you win anyway.

  • Promos or discounts for cirque de soleil - love ?

Hi does anyone know of any promos for cirque de soleil love show at the mirage ? Thanks

Promos or discounts for cirque de soleil - love ?

    No.

LOVE remains probably the hottest ticket in town and sells out (or comes very close to it) all its performances. Pay full price and book in advance as soon as possible.

Promos or discounts for cirque de soleil - love ?

Blagger is correct...LOVE is still selling out all the time.

I can tell you though that you%26#39;ll get great seats even if you book the very cheapest tickets. I have seen it twice from the cheap seats in the very LAST row of the theater and it was a great view from there!

Many thanks for the advice. Just booked the tickets on tbe mirage website.

Could you please recommend some restaurants?

My parents and I are going to Las Vegas for 3 nights, April 5th, 6th, and 7th. We%26#39;ve booked tickets to see Cirque Du Soleil Mystere on the 6th for the 7:00 show. Will the show have a buffet or something or do we need to eat dinner before that time? We%26#39;ve booked Table 10 for the 7th at 6:30pm for dinner. We are not picky eaters by any means. We love Indian and Thai food, but also enjoy other cuisines. Thanks in advance!

Could you please recommend some restaurants?

No dinner or buffet served at the show at Mirage.

Plenty of food choices at the hotel though.

    Indian food on the strip:

    http://www.tambalounge.com/

10% off coupon, not bad and I am no Indian expert. Price is reasonable. It%26#39;s at the Hawaiian Market Place.

Thai food: will be off strip. Most here will recommend LOS (Lotus of Siam), it is decent. I dont know if it is THE best. I%26#39;ve had many other Thai places in town that have a few of their own proud dishes that I also like. Again, taste is so subjective.

Asian food: you cant go too wrong up and down Spring Mountain Road where 2 Chinatowns are.

Could you please recommend some restaurants?

If you%26#39;re used to good quality Indian food on the East Coast then I%26#39;d personally say that anything you find in Vegas will be a big disappointment in comparison.

Hi girl- Since you are staying at the Palazzo, you might want to try the Jade Noodle Dim Sum restaurant there. I couldn%26#39;t find any reviews, but maybe someone on this forum had tried it. After an early dinner you can go over for Mystere.

MGM Mirage Room Comps - 2 Offers during 1 Stay?

I used an offer for TI for 2 nights, then tried to use an offer at MGM for 3 nights, but was denied. Phone rep. said I had to have 6 nights in between offers. Is this true with all MGM properties? Thanks.

MGM Mirage Room Comps - 2 Offers during 1 Stay?

Read the fine print - I thought it was 3 nights in between for offers with free play or slot tourney but that they would still give you a comp based on your past play, just not the offer itself. If you have a host call them they can work wonders. I was able to reap the rewards of 2 offers at one time, when some old crotchety fellow tried to tell me I couldn%26#39;t have my free play and my holidy gift shoppe on the same trip, I basically had to tell him to butt out and I%26#39;d talk to my host as she told me I could have both and I did in fact get both. A regular rep or someone you don%26#39;t normally work with isn%26#39;t going to do squatt for you.

MGM Mirage Room Comps - 2 Offers during 1 Stay?

They definitely will not allow you to book two rooms at two hotels on the same days. However, normally you can book one hotel for two nights then 3 nights at another. maybe they changed their policy.

do call and ask for a host. Your level of play can make a big difference.

I will call and ask for a host. I don%26#39;t want to book for the same nights. I will be there for 5 nights %26amp; want 2 at TI %26amp; 3 at MGM. Thanks.

I was planning on doing this in May and was told it shouldn%26#39;t be a problem. I%26#39;ll be splitting my stay between MGM and the Mirage.

Just an update: Both NY NY %26amp; Monte Carlo said it would be fine. Apparently it was just MGM that wouldn%26#39;t allow it.

Best way to get to hotel

What is the cheapest way for 4 people to get from the airport to hotel? We decided not to rent a car because we love to walk the strip. Do we have to take a cab to Freemont St or is there a bus or monorail?

    Thank you.

Best way to get to hotel

You can do the shuttle, located outside baggage claim, or taxi out there too..we usually do the shuttle and purchase the round trip ticket...

also the duece bus will take you to Fremont, but it stops quite a bit, the monorail doesnt go that far, i think it stops at the Sahara on that end of the strip...

    bella

Best way to get to hotel

to clarify, you want cheapest, not best, correct?

where is your hotel - strip or downtown? sounds like maybe the strip - if so cheapest for 4 tai, unless you want a lengthy walk from the city bus stop - so which casino? bus may still work depending on casino and how far you are willing to walk. or bus and xfer to duece

if downtown cheapest will be city bus.

from strip to downtown cheapest is bus

i don%26#39;t think the bus is best, it does work and is cheap

Sorry I never could spell !!! LOL

What about getting there from Circus Circus?

    Thanks

Are you asking about getting to Circus Circus from the airport, or Fremont St. from Circus Circus. Someone could make $4.95 here by publishing a book ';Internet Posts for Dummies';. Taxi is fastest under both situations. Limo is just as fast, but nicer. The bus will get you there.

Thanks for the insult!! Yes, I%26#39;m asking about both. We have always taken the shuttle in the past (to %26amp; from the airport) but there were only 2 of us. We didn%26#39;t really like stopping at a bunch of other hotels before getting to ours (we have stayed at different places).

SO it sounds like a taxi is the way to go. Thanks for the help.

Why don%26#39;t YOU write that book?!

    You%26#39;re welcome.

Sorry never heard from anyone-does that mean those two places are bad?

Regale and THe Steakhouse at Camelot-Excalibur-any opinions?

I was at Regale, but it%26#39;s been a year. It wasn%26#39;t as expensive as a lot of places... maybe $10-20/entree?
