Cabela's - Anyone Been There?

Has anyone been to the new Cabela%26#39;s yet?

I know it%26#39;s in or near Verdi, but hardly anyone goes to that forum so I decided to post here.

It wouldn%26#39;t be a destination, but it is worth a stop while traveling through?

Cabela's - Anyone Been There?

Hey there,

I am not a hunter nor much of an outdoors(wo)man, but I went to Cabela%26#39;s just to check it out not long after it opened and I found it fascinating. Very interesting animal displays, cool house decorating stuff, a candy/sweet shop, a restaurant, and actually some nice clothing for outdoors as well. There%26#39;s also a shooting gallery for the kids (and kids at heart). My husband and I have actually been commenting that we should go back soon just to see if there%26#39;s anything new since last we were there. In my opinion, I think it%26#39;s worth just stopping in...and you might be surprised how much time you spend!

Thanks, Fonzmambo!--I go through that area a time or two a year, and it sounds like a good stop to stretch my legs, see the exhibits, and look for any new goodies I might not be able to live without. Also to get a bite, of course

The nearest other Cabela%26#39;s is in Utah, and it claims to get as many visitors as Temple Square and some of the national parks, although I%26#39;m not sure a customer is the same thing as a tourist! But there is almost a Cabela%26#39;s cult following, people who arrange their trips around being able to go to a Cabela%26#39;s store. :^D

I too thought it was well worth the trip to look around. They have trophy fish on the walls, an aquarium, a huge display of stuffed wild animals and lots of goodies to buy.

It is located right next to Boomtown, so it is an easy stop along the I-80 drive.

I have also been to the Bass Pro shop (Silverton Hotel Casino) in Las Vegas, and although Cabella%26#39;s is huge, the Bass Pro is even bigger.

Swede: ';right next to Boomtown';...does that mean one can walk to it from Boomtown? I take the free shuttle often from the downtown bowling center out to Boomtown (not lately as their buffet is not as good as it once was and more expensive), but don%26#39;t recall seeing a Cabela%26#39;s....Thanks

Yes, you can walk from Boomtown to Cabela%26#39;s. I was there today. Well worth a stop.

CaSwede-

If I%26#39;m not mistaken, Reno is getting a Bass Pro shop in the near future...

Fonz- that is interesting. Is Reno big enough to support two of these big retail stores?

The Bass Pro Shop in Vegas also had a huge boat section.

I believe it is being placed at the extreme south end of town (near the Mt Rose Hwy), which is at the opposite end of town from Cabela%26#39;s. The intent is to bring in more tourism; Reno is trying hard to appeal to the ';outdoor enthusiast'; rather than simply relying on gambling as a draw. I think a luxury casino is also being built near the same location.

Cabela%26#39;s is next door to Boomtown and whether you fish/hunt/camp/hike, is well worth a stop. They have a ton of things to see, let alone if you are looking for something specific. We just ordered a fishing rod rack from their catalog (at a kiosk from their store) and had it shipped direct to their store for pickup. Saved about $50 in shipping charges! Then again, we live in Sacramento and pass thru on way to Reno 2-3x a month, so convenient too.

They have excellent merchandise and if you%26#39;re just looking for say, hiking shoes or that special gift for an outdoors enthusiast, stop in. If you%26#39;re not big into the outdoors, it%26#39;s thoroughly educational to see their big aquarium, mounted animals and fish of all species.

Then again, if you are outdoorsy, it has everything you%26#39;d ever want for your sport of choice!
