smoking in Poker rooms

Just curious, why is smoking not allowed in a poker room?

Smoking is not allowed in any poker room in Vegas except for the El Cortez and I believe they have changed as well.

I%26#39;m not a ';playa'; so I don%26#39;t pretend to have the answer, but I would guess that it%26#39;s because it is in fact a ';room'; and not out in the open like the BJ tables, where circulation is better. Plus, maybe today%26#39;s big-name players are mostly non-smokers and pressured the casinos to ban it? Again, just some theories. I%26#39;m showing my age here, but I loved the old ';Odd Couple'; from the 70s where they all sat around smoking (except Felix, of course!) during the weekly poker game.

Actually SC, many ';rooms'; are right out in the open and are a part of the casino seperated by rope or railings. MGM is one of the most popular these days and it%26#39;s wide open, same with the Bellagio.

FWIW, I%26#39;m a smoker and I appreciate the policy of non-smoking rooms.

I may live in a cave but at least I don%26#39;t live in Reno

This is just a guess, but maybe they don%26#39;t allow it because people could use smoking as a way to unlevel the playing field in the game. Since you are playing other players rather than the house, it could be very distracting or upsetting to some people if the guy next to you is chain smoking and blowing smoke right at you. Just a guess though.

That%26#39;s what I thought. It was kinda weird that people could chain smoke five feet away at the Bj tables, buthad to step behind a 3 foot wall if they wanted to smoke.

Yzerwing, I agree. That sounds like the most logical answer.

Plus with drink holder and chips and card protector and all other stuff people put in front of them, they are going to run out of room with ashtrays on it as well.
