Hi,
We are planning our September get-away. To make a long story short we are flying to Cali from MN...we noticed that some flights connect in Vegas and I had the idea of staying in Vegas on our last two (Sat %26amp; Sun) nights. So far, he seems into it but, he is worried about the cost.
I don%26#39;t want him to ';poo poo'; the idea SO...I was hoping some of you could help me answer a few questions reguarding cost:
He really likes the strip (it%26#39;s been a couple years), but he is willing to stay downtown for accomidations that are under $100/nt...I recommended the Plaza for $68/nt.
1. What is the cost of transportation to/from the airport? Taxi or Bus?
2. Cost to/from down-town to strip? Is there some kind of shuttle?
3. Beer prices...we%26#39;re not huge gamblers, but we know about gambling for free drinks...lol. But, is there a place right downtown (or even on the strip) you know of where we can get a great deal on beers?
4. Food costs...we are not fancy eaters. A meal for us can usually consist of happy hour food with beers.
I plan on researching vegas.com too, if there is anything else I should check out, please let me know.
Thanks in advance.
;-)
Kristi
Want to go to Vegas, Help me convince hubby! Before you go any further, if you%26#39;re worried about cost, don%26#39;t plan on arriving in Vegas on a Saturday. Your budget will go way further if you avoid Friday and Saturday nights and a lot of hotels won%26#39;t let you check-in on a Saturday anyway.
Want to go to Vegas, Help me convince hubby!
That%26#39;s a bummer...I can call/email a few places to see if we%26#39;ll be able to check in on a Saturday.
I really want to go...I%26#39;ll keep an eye on this forum for any ideas.
Thanks.
For Saturday check ins your best bet is an MGM or Harrahs property on the strip. Some other properties will show Saturday arrivals closer to the date of your trip, when they open them up.
Cheap beer can be gotten at Casino Royale for $1 on the strip, Slots A Fun and OSheas.
Food can be as cheap as you want it. If you sign up for the Four Queens card you can use that for $$%26#39;s off in their cafe. You could also pick up the Fremont coupon sheet and it has some 2/1 buffets. I have never ate at the Brew Pub at Main St. but a lot say its nicely priced and good.
If you are really on a budget you can take the city bus downtown from the airport.
If you have to arrive on a Saturday...staying downtown is a good bet. Rather than the Plaza I%26#39;d check out Four Queens, El Cortez, or maybe Main Street Station (possibly even Golden Nugget..the Sunday night would be cheaper and could average both nights to $100 or less).
As for beer...Main Street Station has a great brewpub. They brew their own beer there. I think they have a special late at night where you can get $1 beers? They have a great beer sampler for $4.95 where you get to try 5 of their beers (good size samples too). Of course you can always gamble at slots to get cocktail service and pay the waitress $1 per beer (in addition to what you feed the slot!)
Taxi downtown from airport could run you close to $30 or so each way depending on traffic. Many take the bus..Lulutoo and Reh2775 are experts on that.
You can take the Deuce bus to the Strip if you want. I think it%26#39;s $5 for a 24 hour pass?
Food...you can eat really great food at cheap prices. MSS Brewpub I mentioned has great food and low prices. The deli at Golden Gate has great sandwiches, shrimp %26amp; crab cocktail for $2, etc. Lots of cafes, etc. downtown.
Enjoy!!
Thank you! I%26#39;ve checked out a few places and some offer a Sat check-in and some do not.
Thanks for all of your helpful information...I will save it and keep checking in!
Much appreciated. ;-)
I would stay away from the Plaza. There are many better options downtown in the same price range.
Cab ride from airport to mid-strip will be about $15.
You can also just sit at a penny machine, bet very small amounts and still drink for free.
Here%26#39;s how to convince Hubby
Withdraw certain favours until Hubby is well and truly convinced to do whatever you want :)
If you are downtown and not going to the strip, you can probably get good deals on hot dogs and other cheap eats (deep fried twinkies)... You can for sure get cheap drinks. Go to LaBayou and you will not be able to keep up with their drink service!
If you make your way downtown, get some two for one coupons (they are online and in lots of magazines and flier all over the place).
Finally, if you can do it, make your way to Ellis Island (behind Bally%26#39;s) for their $6.95 steak special. It is so much food you could share! You get a big steak, green beans, baked potato, and salad, plus one of their microbrews..all of that price!
Check out sites like Expedia. Particularly for weekends, I find they have better prices and availability then many of the hotel websites. I know there are limitations with third party bookings like limited cancelation policy and no gambling comps on the room, but if the savings are substantial it may be worth the tradeoff.
