I am travelling to Las Vegas alone for a 3-day conference. I am going to stay at MGM but can%26#39;t decide between a West Wing room or Standard room. I don%26#39;t plan to spend a lot of time in the room, but will be going to/from the strip at least twice daily (going to/from the conference and then to/from my evening plans).
As I understand, the WW rooms are smaller and barely have a window. They also have no privacy in the bathroom but that doesn%26#39;t bother me since I%26#39;ll be alone. I believe these rooms are better located to the casino and strip.
The Standard rooms are $20 less per night, and are bigger. However, from my understanding, they are a much farther walk from the casino, strip, etc.
Is all my information correct? Which one would you recommend (and why)?
Thanks.
MGM - West Wing vs. Standard
West Wing is definately closer to the strip. You do have a wall between you and the bathroom. The toilet and shower have doors.
The other stuff that%26#39;s important to me doesn%26#39;t matter to you. West Wing has been updated to the new look of the MGM.
I prefer the larger room space and the seperate bathroom.
MGM - West Wing vs. Standard
have never stayed there but i can tell you i have read numerous postings about this and the biggest majority of people say to get a standard tower room and not the west wing room .. most list the main reason being the room size is smaller in the west wing rooms.
But as with several topics on here it%26#39;s a personal choice, i%26#39;d say if you want to be closer to the strip and want a more updated room and the size isn%26#39;t important then go with the west wing room, i%26#39;d say if you want to save $60 and don%26#39;t mind a little longer walk ( i can%26#39;t imagine it being that much longer ) and like a bigger room go with the standard tower room.
Remeber .. some people have funny opinions on things, i am staying at the Signature at MGM in June and heard people say '; it%26#39;s too long of a walk to MGM casino floor '; well i found out from a person i know that walking at average pace it%26#39;s only about a 4-5 minute walk from the Signature tower to MGM casino floor .. and some people say '; too far of a walk ';
best of luck and enjoy your trip
I have stayed in a regular room and if you need to get to the strip that faces NYNY and near M%M world
it is a very long walk to that portion of the strip.
You have to walk thru a crowded casino with people who barley walk, just pokin along.
If that is where you are going then since you are going by yourself stay in WW for closer distance to strip.
We have stayed in both, in fact asked to be moved from the West Wing room.
It to us was like staying in a dingy basement. Others find it to be very nice. The Grand Tower rooms are much more light and more spacious, and we definitely like the bathrooms better there. You definitely will be closer to the strip in these rooms. You will be closer to Studio Walk and the monorail and pool in the Grand Tower. Hope you have a great time, give a report on your room (which ever you choose)when you get back!
If you%26#39;re planning on walking, yes the WW rooms are much closer to the Strip. Otherwise, the Grand Tower rooms are closer to cabs and the monorail. The casino stretches between the two areas so neither is ';closer to the casino';.
You seem to have the essential information correct. The West Wing rooms are part of an older hotel that was absorbed by MGM Grand years ago and have been remodeled with very modern decor. This is why they are small and have small windows. It seems to be very much a matter of personal choice - some people like these rooms, others hate them. The size probably wouldn%26#39;t be an issue for a solo traveler. However, I don%26#39;t think the additional walking distance would be a huge issue for you either, if you are healthy and not wearing heels :)
Personally, I think it is ludicrous for MGM to charge more for a WW room. I would be willing to bet that if you reserved a Grand Tower room, and asked at checkin to be moved to the West Wing, that they would move you for no charge.
Thanks for all of the quick replies.
I decided to go with the Standard room, mostly because of the lower cost.
I don%26#39;t really mind the extra walking too much -- I%26#39;m actually in training for a half-marathon in October, so the extra exercise is good.
Last year I stayed at Planet Hollywood, and walked to the convention center at Mandalay Bay 4 days in a row (in 100-degree heat) while carrying a heavy bag, then walked the strip at night, so this will still be less walking. But I managed to lose 4 pounds during the trip even though I ate and drank like a pig!
