When to tip Housekeeping?

I%26#39;m asking this because of something I read in another thread: How many people recommend tipping the Housekeeper daily VS. one big tip at the end of the stay?

(I%26#39;d like to add that I never really thought about the housekeeper%26#39;s job until I rode the Deuce one late afternoon with a few different hotel%26#39;s staff who were getting off shift. They were comparing work for the day and it sure doesn%26#39;t sound like fun. And I also learned not to try to ride the Deuce at rush hour. 15 minute wait between buses? Not!)

When to tip Housekeeping?

We do it daily

When to tip Housekeeping?

I do it daily, because you do not always have the same person for your whole stay! If you do it at the end 1 person may benefit from anothers work. At least that is how I see it.

Always Daily and if you see the Housekeeper say Hello and Thanks!!!

I agree with daily.

How much should you tip each day?

Definitely daily. We tip $2-3 a day, left on the pillow. $5 if we make a big mess, or they left us 20 towels and 10 shampoos the day before :)

They really do appreciate the few bucks. I usually leave 3-5 bucks a day, but left a few more dollars 1 day since it was X-Mas day and when I got back to the room, boy was I surprised. The housekeeper had made all sorts of little tissue oragamies and folded my toilet paper in the fanciest manner I had ever seen! (this was MGM Grand). Later in the day there was a knock on the door...it was our housekeeper wishing us a merry X-Mas and wanting to know if we needed anything else.Very nice woman. We also said ';hello'; and ';thank you'; to her whenever we saw her and she seemed pleased but surprised. I do not think they always get noticed or shown much respect so any signs or appreciation seem to be quite welcomed. Years ago I was a housekeeper at a retirement village so I know what it is like to do their jobs, although I did not have as many rooms to clean as they probably do.

Daily we tip $5.

Daily and more the 1st day.

Leaving a decent tip the first day with any requests you may have (extra towels etc) will give you way better service the rest of the trip.

With exceptional service I would leave extra when I leave as well.

Daily since the person cleaning the room may change day by day. I also make sure the money is clearly marked with at least a ';thank you';. Some hotels supply envelopes or cards so I use them. I once forgot to leave a note and the money was still there when I returned. I assume the housekeeper didn%26#39;t want to be accused of stealing my money. I tip $3/5 a day.
