First Time Downtown - What to See and Do?

Ok, downtown Las Vegas experts, I need your help. My boyfriend and I are spending the last two nights of our 9 night road trip in downtown Las Vegas and since this is our first time downtown, and only second time in Vegas, we want to make sure we don%26#39;t miss anything!

A little background, we%26#39;re traveling from San Francisco to San Simeon, then to the South Rim Grand Canyon for overnight mule trip, Grand Canyon West for river rafting, and then up to Vegas for one night on the strip, and then two nights in downtown. We did the strip the first time we were in Vegas, and it was ok, but we%26#39;re not really into dance clubs and expensive drinks, so thought we%26#39;d check out downtown.

We%26#39;ve booked Gold Club rooms at the Golden Nugget, a little expensive, but figured we%26#39;d want some nice accommodations by the end of our whirl wind vacation. We%26#39;d like to eat at a buffet, since we%26#39;ve never experienced a LV buffet, is the one at the Golden Nugget really the best downtown? We%26#39;re also looking at eating at the Triple 7 Brewpub and Hennessey%26#39;s for lunches. Other than eating great food and checking out the shark pool at the Nugget, we really don%26#39;t know what else is a ';must do';, any suggestions? Also looking for any advice on where to go for cheap slots and video poker, with the best drink comps, and if there are any cheap, fun bars. We%26#39;re both 26, but much prefer dive bars where you can play darts over snooty dance clubs and such. Thanks so much in advance for your knowledgeable suggestions!

First Time Downtown - What to See and Do?

You made great choices with GN, 777 Brewpub, and Hennesey%26#39;s!

As for Buffets...many people comment that they like the buffet at MSS better than the GN. I%26#39;ve had the breakfast buffet only at GN and it was ok...but we had the champagne brunch this past Sunday at MSS and it was cheaper, and so much better!!

While you are at the 777 Brewpub at MSS, check out all the antiques they have. Chandeliers hanging in casino are antiques, and there are a bunch of old time slots in the main lobby by check in. If you want something different...head to the men%26#39;s room off the main casino floor by the Cashier. Along the backside of the urinals in here is a big chunk of the actual Berlin Wall! Have your boyfriend make sure the coast is clear, and then go take a peek..kind of interesting! =)

Some fun clubs that are non-snooty are over on East Fremont...the Griffin and Beauty Bar are both fun.

There is a ton to do downtown...be sure to stop at La Bayou and try one of their slushy drinks.

If you get a coupon book at GN there will be some 2 for 1 buffet coupons in there, as well as some free cocktail drinks so be sure to check those out! =)

If you do a downtown search on here you can find many things to do....have fun! =)

First Time Downtown - What to See and Do?

If you%26#39;re feeling adventurous(dang, I hope I spelled that right) go beyond the canopy to the fun bars like the Griffin or the Beauty. IF you%26#39;re feeling especially adventurous then go just a little farther east and check out the Westren and the Atomic. Lots of fun, crazy people and great deals on drinks and gaming to be had!!

This is great, thanks guys! Really reassuring that we%26#39;re making good choices, and thanks for the recommendation on La Bayou. I%26#39;d read on here several times about the slushies, but after reading the reviews about the casino itself, it sounds like it might be a good place to hit nickel slots for free drinks too. The Griffin and Beauty Bar look interesting also, but I%26#39;m not sure we%26#39;re brave enough to venture further down...not interested in being propositioned by the ';soiled doves'; as chitowngambler refers to them in many posts here! Anyway, thanks again!

The #1 downtown must do: Head over to the Golden Gate and try the 99 cent shrimp cocktail. The best deal in Vegas!

Wander donw to the El Cortez, be sure to sign up for a player%26#39;s card there, it comes with some great coupons. Look no furthur for your cheap gambling, 25 cent/$1 mini roulette for starters!

Chitown should be along soon to help or just use the search feature for his posts on downtown, very informative, the King of the Divebars is chitown!

Well....even though you don%26#39;t like expensive drinks.... plan to spend a few hours at Golden Nugget%26#39;s pool with drinks. The pool is very splashy and cool with the shark tank in the middle.

You have planned an excellent road trip. I have done one similar, but where we started at Zion and Grand Canyon one year, then off to Vegas, then over to San Simeon (Hearst Castle) and on home.

I mainly enjoy night time downtown, because the lights are pretty down there and it feels like a big street party. So, plan to wander around from place to place gambling, getting free drinks (buy one slushie from LaBayou) and see the light show. I loved Main Street Station, and last time I was downtown I just got every players card. Lots of them gave away from tshirts. Good free souvenir.

Unless you venture further beyond the Griffin and Beauty Bar you won%26#39;t need to worry about those soiled doves! You can easily make it to the El Cortez, Beauty Bar and Griffin while still feeling ';safe';. The Western and Atomic are further east past those...and that is where Chitown often mentions those soiled doves. =)

Have fun!!

I know I could probably google this - but where is LaBayou? I love slushy drinks. Is it near Jillians where we are having dinner one night with our Restaurant.com certificate?

gramsclp...La Bayou is towards the west end of Fremont under the canopy. If you were leaving the Golden Nugget for instance....and turned left (west) to head towards the Plaza...La Bayou would be up and your left hand side. It is sort of across from the Glitter Gulch. Enjoy! The banana flavored slushies are really good! =)

Send a pm to new member JimboRob. He has a ton of opinions on downtown for ya!
