Six in the City (and Red Rock park?)

The excitement is mounting--less than 48 hours to take-off! Both college girls called tonight, 10 y.o. son has bag and clubs packed...now a couple of last queries...We%26#39;re heading to Red Rock Hotel after church and brunch Easter Sunday. Is it reasonable to go to the Red Rock park before checking in, or am I wrong in assuming that they%26#39;re in close proximity? Would 2-3 hours be a time block large enough to go? If we delay that outing until Monday morning, is there a time that the park opens (visitor center???)

Thanks!

Red Rock is close by, 10 minutes away. There are some easy trails to walk..easy in distance, but tough on the ankles and shoes, very uneven and rocky, and lots of horse hockey.

A much more varied and exiting but sandy, easy to walk park visit is Valley of Fire, about 1 hr trip N up I-15 from Vegas

The scenic drive is open, generally, from 6:00am until dusk. The actual closing time of the scenic drive changes with the seasons. The Visitor Center and Book and Gift Store are generally open except on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year%26#39;s Day. The Visitor Center/Book and Gift Store opens at 8:00am and closes at 4:30pm.

How much time you spend there depends on how much hiking you want to do. Just bring the right kind of shoes- no sandals. 2 or 3 hours would be fine. Or you can just drive on the loop-it does have pull off points so you can get out of the car. It is a favorite of rock climbers.

Valley of Fire is much more impressive but it is an hour away from the strip. There are many more sandstone formations that will knock your socks off. Some of the hikes are short. If I had to choose between the two I would definitely choose VOF. Since RRC is so close to you perhaps you wouldn%26#39;t want to spend the time getting to VOF and back. But to me it is well worth the time.

Thanks much!
