Hello, I am looking at car hire in Las Vegas and a number of websites offer a free tank of gas for an additional $20 up front. As I have no idea what a tank of gas should cost is this a good deal??
It does look good to me but that%26#39;s on UK prices.......
Car Hire - Take the Tank??
The car comes with a full taink. They are saying either bring the car back with a full tank or pay $ 20 for them to do it. It use to be a bad deal, but with the cost of gas, if you bring it back with less than a half tank it would be a good deal. Plus you don%26#39;t have to hassle with doing it yourself.
Car Hire - Take the Tank??
As sage said it%26#39;s a good deal. Not sure how the gas can be ';free'; when it%26#39;s $20!! In effect you%26#39;re buying the gas at a slight discount. The rental company make money on this as you%26#39;re not going to drop the car off empty (though I%26#39;ve come close a couple of times) so any gas you don%26#39;t use is a bonus for them.
Typical mid-sized car has a 14 gallon tank, gas is $3.50 / gal, and gets 20 miles per gallon.
Note that unless you are staying for a long time, or do a lot of driving, it%26#39;s hard to go through a full talk of gas on a trip.
Yeah fair point Blagger, nothing is free! I guess the question was whether $20 is a good price for a full tank of gas. I%26#39;m driving from LV to GC and back so that%26#39;s 900km. Pretty sure I%26#39;ll get through more than a tank in that time.
If you can bring the car back as empty as you want for only an additional $20 I would go for it. I would just make sure there is no fine print. $20 seems incredibly low for that option.
I would not do this unless you%26#39;re planning on doing a lot of driving. If you%26#39;re just staying in Vegas, it would be hard to use up an entire tank of gas.
The car should include a full tank already. I can%26#39;t think of any company that offers a refill program for that cheap. There are services where they let you return the car without filling it back up but the rate is usually 50c a gallon more than the regular gas price on the street. I would check into the fine print before you commit to anything.
I agree, read everything carefully. When I rented last it seemed that the $20 was the FEE for the fill up service -- the actual cost of gas was additional, and was a bit more per gallon than the local prices.
In other words, if you choose that option with many companies, you pay the $20 up front, then they bill your credit card for the gas you used.
NOT a good deal unless you think you won%26#39;t bother to fill up.
