first time to LV - choosing a hotel

Hi everyone - we are celebrating out 40th wedding anniversary this year with a trip to US - starting in SF and ending in LV - we will be in LV for 4 nights from 21 Oct Mon to Fri 25th Oct when we fly home....have decided to push the boat out a little in LV since it is the end of our trip.

Looking for a hotel - a bit special, with access to everywhere on the strip - we aren%26#39;t great gamblers, but my husband may have a go just for fun, and we want to see LV so the pool isn%26#39;t too imporant -though we may want to spend a morning there. Is it possible to ask for a quiet room in a busy hotel - don%26#39;t want a suite or anything...being close to Christmas we%26#39;d like to do some shopping

We%26#39;d like to do a couple of shows inc. LOVE - how do we find out about one-off shows eg Cher..Prince..Elton John.. Tom Jones in advance, is there a website we should be watching.

Sorry for so many questions......

what is the weather like in Oct? is it a busy time?

first time to LV - choosing a hotel

Hi

If you are going all out for a great hotel, something to remember, I suggest the Bellagio, lakeview room, got to be the best in town.

As for shows, here is a link that lists most of the shows but I would use it as a guide and book headliners through the hotel website, not an agent. For lesser shows you can usually pick them up at a discount, up to half price from the ticket booths on the strip, http://www.lvol.com/lvoleg/lvshows.html#full

thanks for this........when you say book through the hotel website do you mean the hotel where the show is being held..........ARE the shows generally held in hotels and not theatres and similar venues like in UK

sorry if this seems obvious

The shows are held in theatres which are located inside the hotels. The weather in October is still quite warm, but may be getting chilly by the end of the month, especially at night, but a far cry from end of October in England!

The rooms are generally pretty quiet, especially at a higher end hotel. Vegas is SO much fun! I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll have a ball!

Hi

The hotels are huge and the theaters are inside. Here is a link to the hotels

When you find a show you like, go to the hotel webiste and book.

Just one more question......we have looked at the Bellagio and yes it does look pretty special.

On looking at the website we noticed they have %26#39;promotions%26#39; which appear to be for the next 3 month period......is it worth waiting and booking with the hope of finding a special nearer o Oct...or would you suggest booking now...we probably will go for the Lakeview room?

Hi

You can book now, but we always wait, most offers are within a 12 week range. If you do book now and the price drops you can phone the hotel and they will drop the price because you could always cancel up to usually 24 to 48 hours before arrival, so you could rebook if they did%26#39;nt drop the price. How much better price will depend on if there are any big conventions in town when you plan to be there, yet another link!

plus a discount site you can use to find deals, click the links and it takes you the hotels booking page, not a third party

thanks Clive....I%26#39;ll let you know what we do in the end!!!!

Just double check the cancellation policy before booking...some of the hotel websites offer discounted rates but dont allow cancellation.

Bellagio Lakeview is the best. I would look at their rate calendar on their web site, and book when the October specials come out.

We stayed there once during the 2nd week of October, and the weather was perfect. There are a good choice of restaurants and shopping and the Bellagio is within walking distance to all your major free attractions. Try the restaurant ';Olives'; and ask for a patio table. Or order room service and watch the fountains from your room. Very romantic!~
